    Aldora: what I've been missing

I've done tech diving with Julio (who is in Bali now...), and Memo. I believe there are at least a couple other staff that do tech. However, even if the group as a whole isn't doing tech, it's never been a problem if I chose to do a little 'tech lite' on one of the trips. By that I mean if there...

Traveling to/from Cozumel with a Canister Light

Mine are clearly commercial products, not DIY. But on one occasion, I was told I had to turn on all the lights to prove they were really lights. Especially irritating since my cans have a "travel" position, in which the battery connections are rotated 180 degrees so the light cannot be turned on...

    Aldora: what I've been missing

Depends. You can choose to load up your tanks on the boat (if you're just diving 1 or 2... I don't think I'd try it with more), in which case you'd enter the water the same way you do with backmounted tanks. You can also just jump in with no tanks and have the boat crew pass them down. Depending...

Traveling to/from Cozumel with a Canister Light

I've always got at least one can light in my carry on. The only time I've ever had any issues have been in the US, with the TSA goons. The good folks in Mexico don't bat an eye.

    Aldora: what I've been missing

So dive sidemount and jump in with no tanks at all. Reach back up and grab a couple AL80s, or HP100's, or the big 120s, if you want that much gas. Aldora does tech, so there's always options... With water in the mid-80F range, warmth is never a problem, at least for me, even on a 2 hour dive. I...

    Isla Mujeres Recommendations Please

The best dive sites from Isla Mujeres are the Cancun sites. They're just a longer boat ride from Isla Mujeres. The reefs are healthy, but flat, with relatively few (and short) swimthroughs. That's not bad, especially if you're a newer diver and might have buoyancy issues. There is typically...

    Current Denver Area Water Temperatures

Pueblo Res and Lake San Isabel. Cold and dark, without anything to see, really. And although there are no power boats allowed on Lake San Isabel, the boats on the res will use your dive flag as a slalom marker...

Caribbean Dive Vacation With Two 21 Y.o. Non-divers In June

Cancun... the ladies will find more parties than will make Dad happy, and the diving is very good.

    Place to stay in Curacao

We've only been to Curacao once (It's sort of difficult to get to from where we live). We stayed at Breezes and were quite underwhelmed. Cannot recommend it. We dove with Mark & Suzi from The Dive Bus and cannot say enough good things about them. Strongly recommended.

    Desire Pearl - Cancun

Never dove with them. We've done a fair bit of diving around Cancun, but always with Alvaro from AlwaysDiving.com.

First Time To Hawaii, Where Is The Best Diving?

I can comment on Oahu... The island is absolutely amazeballs. The jungles, Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, hikes in the jungles... The diving... not so much. The reefs are very monochromatic and mostly hard corals. The lack of color and movement, to my eye, looks dead. There's fish, but not as much...

    Rescue type question

I have three children, Sue has seven. All of them are educated adults with good jobs. You know... productive citizens. They didn't get that way by being treated like 3 year olds when they were 16. We also have 8 grandchildren (and 2 more on the way) ranging from 1 to 18. If you treat children...

If the 16 year old is a certified diver, then the 16 year old IS the person responsible for the 16 year old.

    Rescue type question

Duh. But that isn't remotely what the poster said, now is it? If the POSTER wanted to thumb the dive, fine, he should thumb the dive and ascend. No, what the POSTER said was that the other person should have turned the dive because they were approaching the turn pressure. Did you read the post...

    Rescue type question

Approaching turn pressure is not AT turn pressure, so why should he turn the dive?

Question re changing O2 settings in Galileo in mid dive

What you're looking for is a gas switching computer, which the Galileo is not. The PMG upgrade allows you to program three different nitrox mixes, AND the depth at which you will switch gases. The screen shows your plan based on this pre-programmed data as well as an alternate plan that assumes...

Anyone have experience flying into cancun via Houston?

Anybody arriving at a US airport on an international flight is required to retrieve their luggage and go through security at the US airport. After you pick up your checked bags, follow the signs for connecting flights. You will drop off your checked bags, then go get in line for the TSA. There...
