What would you attempt to fix without surfacing?

As others have indicated, it would depend on the circumstances. Adding to this... what have you fixed without surfacing?

What are the accessories that you will always dive with, and why ?

I always have a knife, a line cutter, and a pair of trauma shears. Because they're on my gear, and why take them off? I always take at least one light. More, if we're planning to do anything more than a short swimthough. A DSMB, spool, mirror, whistle... because duh.

Messed up and ascended like a missile

But are you talking PSI (which is what you wrote) or bar? 30 bar is a bit over 400 PSI. That's less than most people would recommend having in your tank when you surface, but it's not an "oh ****!" number. Both of you having less than 100 PSI at the surface (which is what you wrote) is a huge...

Messed up and ascended like a missile

Clearly, this is something you need to practice until it is no longer an issue. I'd suggest taking your mask off and replacing it at least once on every dive until you're so not scared by it that it's boring.

    Learn Doubles or Sidemount first?

Sure, but if we're going for extremely unlikely scenarios, it's also true that there are failures which would require you to shut off your manifold valve (if there weren't, the manifold value would not be in use...), in which case you wouldn't have access to 'all that gas' in back mount either...

So I am not the only person roasting this moron....

I've met Cowboy a few times, and I've worked with his mother for the last decade or so. I'm quite sure he doesn't do drugs, and I've never known him to be a big drinker. I do know that he's not the most eloquent speaker under any circumstances. I know for a fact that he has been diving since he...

    Learn Doubles or Sidemount first?

This was one of the primary factors that led me to go sidemount. Backmounted doubles may be easier to deal with off boats. Sometimes. Sometimes sidemount can be easier. Along with availability, one of the other reasons I started with sidemount was weight. My first purely sidemount trip was...

Cayman Air is Now Offering Direct Flights from Denver!

Excited to see this. As a Colorado diver, I've become far too familiar with layovers trying to get to pretty much any good dive site.

Cutting tool: Best value for money ?

I carry a knife, a line cutter, and a pair of trauma shears (usually grabbed out of my scrubs because I forgot to buy any for the dive trip...) The one I use most often is the shears.

Lion's Dive or Sunscape All Inclusive?

Whoops. #facepalm. My bad for not paying attention to the sub-forum. Only AI we've stayed at on Curacao was Breezes. It was OK, but not up to our standards. To be fair, however, we arrived there the day after Hurricane Tomas, which could reasonably be expected to adversely affect things.

Lion's Dive or Sunscape All Inclusive?

The full names are Sunscape Sabor and Secrets Aura. I shorten them to Sabor and Secrets, for no valid reason other than I do. I should have made that clear in my post. Sorry. They're opposite halves of the same resort complex. Basically, the Sabor side is cheaper but you're restricted to the...

Lion's Dive or Sunscape All Inclusive?

We've never stayed at Lions, but we've been to the Sabor many times. It's good, but Secrets is better. And there's an issue with them, currently, wanting to charge people extra to use the dock to go diving with anyone other than the house op. One thing I suggest... Secrets is better. It's nicer...

[yet another tech PADI vs TDI thread] question for instructors

Interesting. IANTD requires simulated deco dives initially, to demonstrate planning and ability to hold stops and such, but you do have to do actual deco before you get certified. I'm kind of surprised to hear TDI does it this way.

Safety Sausage what color is recommended yellow or orange

Yellow. Or Orange. Some places/people use one colour to indicate an "all is well" ascent and another to indicate an "oh ****, we're in trouble" ascent. But there's no universal or even really widely accepted usage. So get whichever you like. Personally, I carry an orange bag and attach it to a...

[yet another tech PADI vs TDI thread] question for instructors

I"m not an instructor, so take this for what it's worth. PADI is a relative newcomer to tech diving training. So I suspect that many of the people you're describing started teaching before PADI tech courses existed.

    Doubles In Bonaire?

Pretty much any of the sites (other than the north shore...) will be fine. Sometimes. Surf is kind of unpredictable. Honestly, if I do doubles on Bonaire, I go sidemount. Otherwise, just do singles and do more dives per day.

What to wear diving in the Caribbean?

Totally depends on the individual. I wear a Lycra dive skin, and rarely a 3/2 wetsuit. Sue and Kim, on the other hand, wear 7-8ml suits, including hoods, in 84F water.
