Cave Line in and around Three Tables/Firehouse areas (Oahu)

Oh I’m sure no one seeing a line disappearing into a crevice would have the slightest idea of following it to see what treasures lay at the end of it...

Pros and cons of becoming an instructor

I became an instructor 30 years but I was also a licensed 100-ton captain. That made me a LOT more employable. I took breaks from technical work to dive until at one point, I gave up on the tech stuff. Most of the instruction that I did was for other agencies than NAUI which was dying in the...

USS Clamagore Artificial Reef Project for Palm Beach County,

Ah, yes, Clamagore... Oh, that makes all the difference. Boy, they just couldn’t call the boat “Blue Parrotfish.” Well, I’m done typing with my elegant, long, slim fingers that had nothing to do with typing “Clamadore” instead of “Clamagore”. Hmmm...I just thought of a product name for a device...

A flag that is less of a drag?

I thought the flag was ok that came with the float. It even had a little anti-rollover ball on the top. Tony said that he had trouble seeing it and that his flags were better. Once I found one of his lost flags on the bottom, that was the end of that.

USS Clamagore Artificial Reef Project for Palm Beach County,

I thought you made up the name of that sub. Maybe doing shots of tequila while reading Kurt Vonnegut and your chunky fingers and autocorrect on your phone couldn’t handle “Tralfamadore”. But nope...it is indeed “Clamadore”. Apologies for the chunky finger reference.

A flag that is less of a drag?

How I Pimped My Mako Float: I dive on Diversity in Boca Raton sometimes, and Captain Tony makes every dive team carry a float/flag. I don’t like his floats, even with my own reel. So I use my own rig. Tony didn’t like the flag that came with the float. I found one of his lost flags on a dive in...

    superhydrophic coating on wetsuit

This is a bad idea. You’re going to jump off a dive boat in 100’ of water and fall straight to the bottom through the water column. If you have a camouflage suit on, they’ll never find you. I forgot to add, but if you are wearing a thick rubber wetsuit and you fall through the water column in...

If you had to pick 1 cave...

I found a deep cave on Oahu that I was never able to get back to explore. Long, meandering way in, no lines, no maps, no idea what we were doing since we sure were not looking for a cave. I surfaced in the dark but couldn’t leave the exit hole with no frame of reference to find it again. Plus I...

Recording audio with a full face mask

You edit the video..you’re gonna want to edit the audio as well. Unless...you’re THAT good. Even if the audio is kind of not-so-good, you mighf get some cool room tone that you can add to your video later. Plus you can always talk to yourself at the editing bay from underwater while you’re...

Uncertified Scoundrels Teaching the Public to Dive in Libya

Wrong...scuba instructors ARE special. Divemasters are NOT special.

Torn Eardrum, any experience with the Doc's ProPlugs

When I lap swam a lot, the kick turns would get my ears loaded with water which was a problem when I went on scuba. I used the Pro Plugs for a few years, and they worked ok. The problem is not losing them. I was always careful with my gear, but I still lost a bunch.

Uncertified Scoundrels Teaching the Public to Dive in Libya

I read the initial page of this thread but could not face 7 more pages of political weigh-ins. I wouldn’t label all these Libyan con men and scammers as “Uncertified scoundrels”...I’m sure many of them are very fine people... But geez Louise...teaching scuba in Libya. That sounds like the...

How? GoPro tank mounted to see what’s following you.

South Florida and briefly decades ago on the Great Barrier Reef. It was always probably pretty safe, but these videos and stories pop up all the time about someone spearfishing a little north and getting a flyby or diving on the deeper wrecks off Key Largo and guess what swam by us! Plus they...

What's your hand signal for jackfish?

Hmm...I passed this thread on to the dive group. We never thought of mimicking using a carjack for jackfish. We always wondered why no women ever dived with us twice after we tried to point out schools of jacks off in the distance.

How? GoPro tank mounted to see what’s following you.

I don’t want to know what’s been following me. When I use to do solo night dives, on the deco stops, I just stared at my computer second after second until I could get the hell out of the water column.

Hoag - just make your way to Nassau and you make your Cat Island connection from there.
