Has anyone successfully obtained college credit for PADI courses?

I can’t understand all this interest in collitch credit for scuba diving. When I went to NYU in the 70’s, as part of prelaw, I spent six months with the NYPD kicking down doors in the East Village, six months with the NYFD in the busiest fire station in the world then in the South Bronx, and six...

Italy Group Dive Trip - Dive the Sunken City of Baia!

It’s sold out for this year. I like the inclusion of the pasta making along with the diving. A few years ago, I sent my wife to Tuscany to a a really awesome-sounding cooking adventure school where she was going to learn pasta making, bread baking, and homemade mozzarella making. When she got...

Unknown Two abandoned drifters rescued by ferry, one hospitalized - Western Australia

The waters there are those cool green waters. It’s a little north of the prime grounds down by Albany out to the Bight, but they come through.

Unknown Two abandoned drifters rescued by ferry, one hospitalized - Western Australia

Geez, I dived with PDA at Rottnest in 1986. Those guys must have been on the inside of the island towards the mainland for the ferry to see them. On the outside two or three miles offshore, the next stop is the east coast of Africa, but not to worry, the boys will get you first.

Is it better to be tall or short in scuba diving?

No one even mentioned shrinkage. That’ll be good for another 5 pages.

Free diver dies following distress incident off of Heeia Kea Pier - Hawaii

I actually worked out of He’eia Kea pier for a number of years doing Japanese introductory dives in Kane’ohe Bay. We started out in the middle of the bay and then were shifted over towards the Marine base and Coconut Island, where the opening scene of Gilligan’s Island was filmed. The second...

Free diver dies following distress incident off of Heeia Kea Pier - Hawaii

Oh I want to be on the boat that morning during the dive briefing. “By the way Seaweed Doc, remember what you posted in early 2025? Well today’s your big day!”

Do you carry a tourniquet when diving?

Geez, lugging around a tourniquet on a dive seems like overkill. If you get bit by a big shark, tying off your leg stump is just going to extend the shark’s playtime with you. What if you run into a polio victim in distress at 100’? That tourniquet is going to do jack squat, but you’ll wish...

    My back surgery...

Geez...I just started taking Eliquis. This sounds like it could be fun. Plus just started seeing an oncology cardiologist at the Mayo - the guy looks his mom should drive him to work. I have a new drug from him - it sounds like manoloblahnik, but I'm pretty sure it's something else.

    My back surgery...

Hey, on this prostate stuff, I was in Scotland a couple of years ago and having some plumbing problems so I went to see a urologist when I got back. Before that, I had been getting care from the VA, and that had turned to shi#e during Covid, but nothing had bothered me so life was good. So right...

PayPal Sucks, Sides With Scammer in Hollywood, Florida

I was an early user of eBay/PayPal starting in the late 90’s on dialup modems when I lived in Honolulu and was preparing to emigrate to the US. It was GREAT in those days. I sold a Hong Kong-sewn custom tuxedo to a lady in Texas for her boyfriend, a couple of photo enlargers that I could not...

    Tech Diving for Seniors?

Not to rain on this lovely parade, but why not stick to easy simple pleasure diving? You start screwing around with doubles and a deco bottle on a boat, and you’re looking at maybe messing up your back, among other things. In central NY, unless things have changed since the days of gearing up at...

    The Underwater Bike....

I’d pay a lot of money to see a frog in a top hat riding a unicycle. If he sang, “Hello my honey” at the same time, well, I’m not sure anything would ever top that.

    Question P-valve or "adult" diaper

Listen pilgrim, go with the p-valve. And—-> you cannot overclean it. I slacked off ONCE over 14 years ago and got a UTI that defined “mortal hell on earth”. I still remember the excruciating agony to this day. On the adult diaper thing, you’ll be strapping into them soon enough just to go to...

    The Underwater Bike....

This device is the only thing that will save mankind from extinction. That propeller-like doodad they’re maneuvering around is not an upside-down shipwreck, it’s a giant version from an extinct race that didn’t pedal fast enough.

    Twinset storage question

20 years ago, twinned 8” 130’s were all the rage with the tech divers in south Florida. Fill Express used to be on Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach, and watching these guys wrestling with their tanks was always a little amusing. I’d always offer to help them get their tanks out of the shop and...

    Layover time for EWR

Two years ago, I had a 3 hour layover at EWR coming back from Paris and continuing on to West Palm Beach. We got in on time, and 4 1/2 days later, JetBlew got us back down to Floriduh. During our extended tour of the greater New York/New Jersey metropolitan area layover, we got to see Elizabeth...
