Ok, Gary. I gotta know - how did you know this guy was a DM?

    What happened to personal responsibilty?

Wait. Hold on just a second. I am pretty sure I heard somewhere, I think it was on TV, that the government was responsible. Yeah, pretty sure the government is supposed to be responsible for my safety. And I am nearly 99% sure that they are supposed to be responsible for my happiness. I'll...

    Unhappy with PADI

Yeah, but it depends on the card. Sometimes you need to show a particular card to do the diving you want to do or to get a fill (Nitrox, AOW, etc.), otherwise I agree. Durian, I also agree with you and your post. Understand the venting. It can be frustrating to need your card, fork over...

    Unhappy with PADI

Thanks, Rob. I have my PADI nitrox (did both at the same time - wanted to understand the different philosophies and methods), so I haven't had a problem getting fills and haven't pushed the issue. It's worth a phone call to see if I can get it sorted. I'll let you know what comes of it. MEL

Night Dive Buddy Separation - What would you do?

Ah, the drive to Portsea. That is exactly where I go. I would arrange my dives with Aquatic Adventures in Glen Iris and they coordinate w/ Dive Victoria in Portsea for the boats. The Portsea and Rye piers I know well. I did the Eliza Ramsden as the very last dive before I left - I cannot...

Night Dive Buddy Separation - What would you do?

Hey, a lot of discussion has happened since I last checked. This is great. The differing POVs are really provinding a lot of good insight into dive differences and situational considerations. Thanks for all the great feedback, guys.

    Diving in the South Pacific

My instructor at my Melbourne LDS runs a trip out to Vanuatu every year. The Van island of Espirito Santo was a US military base during WWII (think Michener and the Black Sheep Squadron). As such, there is a heap of great stuff to dive on, not the least of which is the S.S. Calvin Coolidge (a...

    Unhappy with PADI

Yeah, the replacement cards are quite expensive, which is annoying. I believe it costs USD35, so 50 Aussie would be about right. I got my IANTD Nitrox cert in Oz in May and still haven't received my card. I contacted my LDS there and they said all the cards come from IANTD Miami and...

Night Dive Buddy Separation - What would you do?

Thanks for your input, Guys. I really appreciate the feedback. Some items for me to think about going forward: - being the middle diver, as opposed to staying back and high - perhaps avoiding the situation altogether with a new diver by not adding a third - not necessarily being so...

Dive computer in carry on bag?

Count yourself lucky - They've always made me unpack my reg bag at LAX.

Night Dive Buddy Separation - What would you do?

Charlie, Good question! When my Dad and I were diving together, I led. When we added the third diver, I was responsible for determining the general plan, leading the descent, turning the dive, and leading the ascent. I was trying to arrange it so that the other two could work out what they...

Night Dive Buddy Separation - What would you do?

Yeah, I neglected to mention it. Kind of an important detail I left out. Sorry, but I appreciate the input.

Night Dive Buddy Separation - What would you do?

El Orans and Shaka, I guess I was looking at it more like I would be better able to come to their aid from the top looking down and at the same time keep everyone from banging into one another, but what you guys suggest seems to make good sense. Thanks, MDD

Night Dive Buddy Separation - What would you do?

Gangrel, You never saw torch waving this intense - I was like a madman. I reckon that by the time I did it, they were too far away for it to be seen. Bad timing on my part. And yeah, you're right '...this time'. I don't ever want there to be a next time. Thanks, MDD

Night Dive Buddy Separation - What would you do?

First, a little background… My family and I just recently moved back from Australia to Washington, DC (I seem to mention this in most of my posts. I must miss it). My wife, sensing my pain at having to trade great ocean wreck diving for fresh water quarry diving, decided to sign me up for a...

    Need a Little Help

Yeah, I think you can also purchase dry suit gaiters separately - the idea being that you strap these things around your calves and it keeps the air from gathering in there.

where is your next dive trip to?

Blackbeards in the Bahamas in 3 weeks!

Do they have Nitrox on Blackbeards?

I am going out with them on Sept. 16 and was told the following: No Nitrox. 4-5 dives/day.
