Sub-Gravity AquaProp; The Little DPV that could

I sent you a PM on package pricing I can do $3915 and not break the dealer agreement.

I agree, the P1 and the Ecos are very similar in performance, but the P1 PTB costs almost $2,000 less than the Ecos, so the price points are actually less comparable than the P1 and the Aquaprop. What DPV makes more sense to an individual diver depends on what the major priority happens to be...

Sub-Gravity AquaProp; The Little DPV that could

Flood detectors are nice in theory, but it also means another hole in the pressure hull, and through holes are one of the major sources of flooding. And, in some cases it is redundant. If your DPV is weighted to be an ounce or two positive, and it suddenly goes neutral or negative, then you know...

    Mixed team (cc & oc)

I have the same reaction anytime I see or hear about a diver plugging both on and off board diluent into a manifold, rather than a gas switch block. With a manifold, if the tank valves are all open, which tank actually supplies the gas being used is entirely dependent on the respective...

"Pre-flight" inspection is important with any DPV to ensure the O-rings are clean and lubricated and the O-ring grooves and seating surfaces are clean. That's your first and best defense against a flood. It also pays to take care to periodically maintain the propeller shaft seal to ensure it...

    Mixed team (cc & oc)

I agree. I make it a point to remind an infrequent or first time OC team mate that I'm on a rebreather and have 6 hours or so of scrubber duration and O2 available, so I will not be turning the dive on "thirds" - that's on the OC team mate. However, I also let him or her know that I will turn...

The DiveXtras Piranha P1 PTB weighs 24 pounds and is airline travel legal, using four 20 volt 5 Ah (100 watts each) power tool batteries. I measured mine at 215 fps with my side mount rebreather and cave diving configuration. Speed for a free diver would be really fast. It produces 63 pounds...

    Mixed team (cc & oc)

Zi550u, if you're reading closely you'll notice the differences in approaches between a CCR with a DSV and a CCR with a BOV. For example, if you turn the knob on my DSV with the loop in my mouth, you'll just close the loop and leave me without any gas supply as there is no second stage...

    What is the quietest DPV?

I don't disagree (much) with Tom on general principle as he's intelligent and knows his way around dive equipment. But some of my answers are slightly different (mine are in red): Do I really want one? Yes, yes you do really want one. Not kicking is amazing Are they even worth it? Added...

    Mixed team (cc & oc)

I do a fair amount of mixed team diving. I do a really short but clear briefing on gas sharing. Essentially: 1) My bailout second stage is on a bungee around my neck - feel free to use it if you are in need of gas - just pull it and it will come out of the bungee loop. 2) DO NOT take the...

Sub-Gravity AquaProp; The Little DPV that could

The Aquaprop has 31 pounds of thrust. That compares to 55 pounds for a Silent Submerge Minus, 63 pounds for a DiveXtras P1 and 61 pounds for an Ecos. The Aquaprop will perform accordingly, so that limits it to single tank diving and comparatively slow speeds in the 100-125 fpm range, when a...

    Scooter weighting

At Tom notes, the UV 26, UV-18 etc will get slightly more negative at depth. The O-rings on both ends of the tube compress and decrease the length and volume of the scooter slightly. That's pretty much the case with any scooter where the nose caps and or tails sit on a compressible o-ring.

A technical diver I know managed to loose his LX20 inside a wreck, so it's a potential issue. I run a loop of bungee through the hole in the end and insert my arm through it. If it pops out of the hand mount, it's still not going anywhere. But...I still carry a back up primary in a pocket...

I'll see if I can get a comparative picture this evening. I most definitely have the earlier version - we've had them for several years.

Haskel "How to service/overhaul videos" available for gas booster owners

I apologize for any confusion Jim, and for making an assumption that 5-lead time meant a 5-7 week lead time on the parts I ordered. I did call the 800 number to follow up on the quote Wednesday at 11:39am, and was advised they'd have the quote to my by the end of the day. That ended up being a...

Haskel "How to service/overhaul videos" available for gas booster owners

I was excited, then I got a lot less excited. I bought an O2 service AG-30. It runs great but I want to re-clean it, and figured I'd replace all the seals in the process. It took 4 days to get a quote and the quote included this statement: "***Approx lead time: 5-7 weeks aro / payment...

    What is the quietest DPV?

Pete, if you are looking for quiet, it's hard to beat an Oceanic motor and prop based scooter using a slower wound motor with a lot of prop pitch. The motors in these scooters (Mako, Gavin, etc) are direct drive and fixed speed based on the motor winding, but vary from as low as 650-700 rpm (in...

    Bungee chokers

Let me start with "I am not a fan of ring bungees". I much prefer to use a continuous loop bungee as it will get the tanks higher and farther back than a ring bungee system. And if you use a bolt snap on a loop of paracord around the tank valve, you have the same out of the water functionality...

    Steel tanks vs. Alum.

The SMS 75 and the Xdeep Stealth are great examples of "it depends". For example, the SMS 75 is perfect for the KISS Sidewinder CCR, in large part because it was designed around the SMS 75. In contrast the Xdeep rig is all but incompatible and won't work well with the KISS Sidewinder CCR...
