GUE (and other non-PADI) Open Water Standards for No-Deco Limits

All of that isn’t recreational diving. Hence the recreational tables and approaches (designed to work for max depth 30m non-deco dives) do not apply. There are approaches for technical dives, deeper dives, longer dives, multi-gas dives, but these are probably best discussed in the tech forum.

GUE (and other non-PADI) Open Water Standards for No-Deco Limits

There also is an easy to remember rule for that based on surface interval duration.

Someone already typed that one up I guess MDL using average depth, where average <60ft

GUE (and other non-PADI) Open Water Standards for No-Deco Limits

Well my main take away from the above is, that you should have an understanding of how the process works, and be able to judge whether what your computer says is of the right order of magnitude. Trusting any number it gives on the other hand, appears less prudent to me (cf recent Suunto lawsuit...

What's the latest on no-fly times for multiple trimix dives over several days ?

We have a commercial airline pilot in the local diving circle here. He routinely gets on the plane with the hair still wet from the dive (probably not quite due to briefing times etc but you get the idea). Similar story as what fsardone described ... know that so long as the cabin doesnt...

GUE (and other non-PADI) Open Water Standards for No-Deco Limits

At the GUE fundamentals level, we were taught on the basis of the GUE minimum deco table (MDL - minimum deco limit), same as eelronaa described above. What is important to understand, is that in GUE style, this works differently from how you imagine table based planning from other agencies (say...

Best Mix VS Standard Gasses (split from a GUE fundies course report)

Well ... in the rec range and T1 range it does not really make a meaningful difference. I’d hazard the guess that a) there aren’t that many divers that regularly do T2 or T2+/T3 dives, and b) those that do, have sufficient experience of their own to choose a reasonable number within their team...

Getting permission to dive private quarry

I cant help on the liability front, but you might want to think about whats in it for the owner. It is not a very attractive proposition for the owner, that you want to dive there so you can have fun, and they have the risk of liability issues, worries about litter, vehicles, etc. It is a very...

What's the latest on no-fly times for multiple trimix dives over several days ?

With oxygen at 6m you will actually exit the water desaturated (at least for some tissues). That means you’ll be on-gassing on the surface. Granted, this its probably not feasible to desaturate slow tissues, but you can bring down the tension considerably with a pO2 of 1.6 Re the OP question...

Importance of back kick in Cave Diving?

Minimum requirement in GUE standards for Cave 1 is: Maybe a GUE instructor will chime in, but based on the standards, I'd expect the answer to be that you won't get any cave card without a solid backward kick. I agree with this: without solid propulsion skills (along with buoyancy, trim...

Does the body get better at removing nitrogen?

As far as I’m aware, your body does not acclimatize or otherwise adapt to higher N2 losing tolerance by itself. So it’s unlike acclimatization to altitude where your body produces more red blood cells to cope. Having said that, factors influencing DCS and offgasing are well known, so you can...

    Electronic Dive Log Recommendations

Not sure which one is best. I use “Dive Log” which ticks all your boxes and works very well. Having said that, you should probably add Subsurface to the list too.

GUE Fundamentals Class Report (22 APR 2019)

I’m not quite sure where the impression of the hardcore zealots comes from. In the real world I don’t know any - everyone operates with common sense and leveraging the tools they are given in the training. But even if you were a 100% standards nazi, then close inspection of the standards will...

    When to Use Dump Valve

You don’t need to be vertical to dump from the corrugated hose, its also possible in perfect trim. Try holding the corrugated hose up behind your head, this always works for me. I also dive halcyon wings (Evolve with doubles, Eclipse with single tank). As to which dump to use, it kind of...

GUE Fundamentals Class Report (22 APR 2019)

I always like reading these reports, reminds me of my fundies days :-) we had all started out super ambitious on day 0, gradually met reality to the point of all being convinced we would all fail by day 2 and 3, for everything to somehow magically come together on day 4 and all getting rec...

DIR- Generic What constitutes a Tech-1 dive?

Wow this is a totally new perspective ... GUE is middle of the road, almost maintstream! ;-)

DIR- Generic What constitutes a Tech-1 dive?

Well @CptSindbad, if you are looking for a DIR agency with very clearly defined renewal standards, there is one (ISE). They require an annual re-evaluation dive. I can see the thinking behind it, but I prefer the logistically (and $$) easier version of GUE :-)

DIR- Generic What constitutes a Tech-1 dive?

I suppose you could try to set such a standard, but it would probably end up super complicated if you want to ensure that it does the right thing. This is very similar to the question that often gets asked in the recreational forum: what constitutes a dive / when do you log a dive? Some will...

    How common is this?

I recently came across a TecRec/DSAT/PADI workbook for tech diving. In almost all pictures, instructor and students were kneeling on the bottom. This included kneeling during the demonstration of a gas switch. I guess I dont need to comment on how absurd that is if you cant hold a stop while...

    Left handed?

Don’t, you’ll regret it later. Tapping out - some people just have to learn for themselves ;-)
