    Dolphin and Whales save fisherman

Dadvocate, You've obviously never scene the crab torture scene from the the Kirk Douglas/Tony Curtis masterpiece "The Vikings". Personally, I feel if dolphins are willing to have sex with us, they should be willing to rescue us.

    Ditching weight II

An uncontrolled ascent could cause an embolism, DCS, or other potentially deadly conditions. Drowning will kill you. :skull: If that's the choice, drop the weight belt.

    Czech lager

Sounds yummy. I've got an ale in the fermenter, but it's been so cold at night (well, cold for San Diego) maybe I should have done a lager.

    Dolphin and Whales save fisherman

I've pulled Japanese fishing floats out of the middle of the Pacific Ocean, half way between Hawaii & the US, that had little crabs hanging onto them. As far as the rescue by dolphins goes, there have been many reports of this over the years, dating back to ancient Greece. Back in the 60's...

Has anyone ever had to ditch their weight?

In 30+ years of diving I've never ditched, but I've found 3 weight belts on the bottom, so somebody must have. What I want to know is, why do I always find them at the beginning of a dive. it's a pita to carry an extra weight belt the whole dive!!!

    Star Trek Dive Team

I met Gene at a San Diego Ocean Foundation dinner, he has become a major contributor for them. He puts his money where his mouth is; he also donated several Star Trek props for auction. Anyone who is willing to devote time and money to protecting the oceans is a good guy in my book.

    Safety Stops and old practices

An interesting thread, this. I checked my 1975 edition of the Sport Divers Manual last night and it had no mention of a safety stop at any depth for any length of time for a NDL dive. It also recommended inflating your horse collar to initiate the ascent. I did not do safety stops...

First year of marriage really the hardest?

On the other hand: My parents married a month after they met, after only 4 dates. (there was a war going on) They just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. You can beat the odds.

How do you cook your Socal Lobster?

I usually boil them for about 8 min. the day I get them, then pop them in the freezer. When I want to eat them, I split and clean them, butter them and throw them on the grill. If I want to feed more people then I have lobster this is one of my favorite recipies: Pasta with Lobster, Tomatoes...

    Progression to solo diving

You also need to work out an information plan. Someone should know where you are going to be diving and when you should be back. Make sure you carry some identification and contact numbers with you on your dive.

First year of marriage really the hardest?

Babies are easy. Feed em, clean em, bounce em on your knee and throw em back in the crib. Teenagers, otoh, are the spawn of the devil.

First year of marriage really the hardest?

I knew a marriage counselor who was going to write a book titled: "Marriage; a lot more fighting and a lot less sex then you ever thought possible" Of course, people don't go to counselors when the relationship is going great. Like Dave said, communication is the key. Contrary to everything...

    Love, Life and Relationships

I pity the fools who seriously thinks they can plan their romantic future. The gods keep track of remarks like the op's and plan their amusement accordingly. 20+ years ago, three months after separating form my wife, I went to a party "just to meet some new people, not looking for romance." I...

    A reporter's perspective

I checked out the article on the web site: Patterson Irrigator | Your Local Paper - The year in photos... It's taken from a 2008 retrospective written by a photographer. Not exactly Pulitzer Prize material, but probably not that damaging, considering the total readership of the paper...

    Naked Surprise

This whole thread makes me kind of sad. Mutual disrobing is a significant part of the whole experience; the aesthetic pleasure to be taken from the gradual revealing of tan lines, the inferred symbolism of the various items of clothing, the visual feast of the final form in it's voluptuous...

Near misses, some of what I have learned

Here is an alternate method for locating the anchor line. When I dive the pipeline I locate it with the depth sounder on my boat as I cross over it, and anchor a few dozen yards away. That gives me a bearing from the anchor to the pipe. After descending the anchor line, I swim along that...
