    COBRA, VYTEC, VYPER...I'm lost!!!

What kind of diving are you doing now, or are you planning to do? There are times when having a wrist computer is not advisable, like lobster diving. I dive with a computer on my console and one on my wrist. I do not know of any failures with a cobra, but that does not mean that they will not...

    How deep can u go?

The deepest dives to date were to 69.5 ATA in the Golf chamber at Duke AFAIK. There were problems at depth with HPNS, though symptoms subsided after the dives. I think I remember hearing that the deco scedule was close to a month. http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/medical/tour/5golf.asp

    What do you call this???

That's called skip breathing. The headache is due to a build up of CO2. You should never do it, and if this buddy ever has a problem, the habit of holding his breath could make any situation worse.

Does your dive boat staff setup your gear?

Having spent a bit of time as a boat monkey and as a paying diver, I junderstand both sides of the argument pretty well. I think that it is best to watch people set up their gear, you can learn a lot about the way they will dive. I am standing there and can help if I need to, and earn some tips...

    Doing It Prejudiced

What about NOAA? I don't remember anything about a smoking prohibition in the manual, but I don't have it with me so I can't check. :icosm11: I've met many instructors who have been smoking longer and would have no problem passing those tests. I know that is not the case for most people...

    editing memory on suunto mosquito?

It depends on how long the battery is out. If you just do a battery change, old one out, new one in within a few minutes, there should not be anything lost. I have done multiple battery changes with nothing lost at all (on other suunto computers).

    Aqualung/Technisub Folding snorkel

I've got a SNAP for emergency use and to comply with Laguna Beach Regs. I've used it and I don't like it much, but it would work when I needed it. I have another snorkel for real use and freediving demos. I keep the snap in one of my back trim weight pouches, not real convenient, but I can get it.

    Which tables should you believe?

You are talking about Project Dive Exploration, but there will not be a set of tables to come out of it. It will mostly look at what kinds of profiles are more dangerous, and stats on DCS; rates of occurance and risk groups. PDE might point out where tables have problems, and others will...

    Various Dive Tables

You can always calculate MOD and equivalent depth manually, then use what ever table you want. Also, don't forget about Oxygen clock for each dive. If you calculate EAD by hand, just use the EAD as your planned depth for the dive. Use the normally otherwise.

Suunto Stinger or Vyper? Please Help???

The Gekko has the interface to download, but the software is not commercially available. You would not be able to use the Gekko to view or log dives on a PC.

Suunto Stinger or Vyper? Please Help???

I own a stinger and have used the vyper on many occasions. I would recommend the vyper because you have the option of putting it in a console or on your wrist. You are kind of stuck with the stinger on your wrist, which is a pain in a drysuit. This may not matter now, but you may care in a few...

Where's a good place to learn how to dive in CA?

Where are you a student? Many of the Universities and colleges have their own programs. You might want to check. They are nice because you will be diving with other students, and will often get in contacts with school dive clubs. If it needs to be done this summer, then find a good instructor...

    Seasickness

I heard from some people at DAN who tried them, they said they worked. I believe they are approved by the FDA, for all that's worth.

    Freeport, Bahamas info request

Stay in Port Lucaya, there is a lot more to do there. Our Lucaya is nice if you want a big resort, the other hotels right there are all convenient. I would have to recomend Xanadu, but I'm a bit biased, as I worked there 3 years ago. I never got tired of the shark dive, make sure you see it.

How many dives until your DM

I had about 60 dives when I started DM, and I did not feel experienced enough. I also fast tracked into an IDC, with much the same feeling. Now, 3 1/2 years later and several hundered dives richer I am somewhat more comfortable. The one thing that I really did not like, and still don't, is...

What have you seen underwater that you'll never forget?

Runner up: Being followed by a dolphin in Eilat while doing my 800m snorkel swim for DM. 3) Humpback whale off Cabo San Lucas 2) Pair of dolphins mating. Though, mating was what you see on Discovery, this was more like skin-emax. Swam with them for about 2 hours, before during and after...

    suggestion on wetsuit in bahamas???

Working in the Bahamas I wore a 3mm, with a 0.5mm hooded vest (I get cold pretty easily, combined with up to 4 dives a day). Most divers wore 3mm or 5mm suits. I would not recommend a shorty, especially if you do a shark dive, many places ave you kneel on the bottom. Gloves could be a good idea...

Why are you called.....The Great Screen Name Thread

Sharkbait= the job I had at a dive shop in the Bahamas before college, and the nickname my new friends at college gave me upon hearing about said job. (This was pre-Nemo) DAN= The organization I worked for last summer
