    How do you pronounce DIN?

Maybe I'm just really bored, but saying Ess See You Bee Aey really fast is actually a lot more fun than saying scuba. I think from now on, I'm officially an ess-see-you-bee-aey diver. :D

    Secondary reg bungee'd around neck?

I'm kind of with Walter on this one. I've never really understood the idea of having a long hose so you don't have to be close to an OOA diver. First, you have to be close enough to donate the reg. Unless you have that reg attached to a 7' pole you're going to be within arms reach. Second...

    is this common ??????

I didn't know you could search for people on Military.com like that. Actually, I didn't even know military.com existed. :D Anywho, my middle name is wrong, my rank is wrong, the state I live in is wrong. Basically, they have the branch and my last name right. Other than that, its all...

Nope, not Navy, same department though. ;)

    Secondary reg bungee'd around neck?

I think my main point was that not everyone who doesn't bungee their octo is a bumbling idiot who drags their gear through sand and all that good stuff.

    is this common ??????

The origin of pogue, to be fair, is unknown. But the commonly accepted meaning today is "person (or personnel) other than grunt". REMF is, rear echelon blankety blank. I'm pretty sure you can figure out the "MF" part without me violating the TOS. ;) I just don't like the terms because they...

    Secondary reg bungee'd around neck?

Let's not assume that the only two options are bungeed secondary or bumbling moron. There are plenty of people who do not bungee their octo who also do not drag it through dirt, bang it on coral, attempt to lasso sea turtles with it, or anything at all like that. I would also point out that...

    is this common ??????

Yup, I just ordered this bad boy off the internet, should look pretty sweet on the wall, but just because I have it, doesn't mean its true. Not to start a fight here, but there are few things that drive me up a wall faster than hearing someone use the terms "pogue" and "REMF".

    is this common ??????

Not to get too picky here, but LAR is not recon as in a graduate of Basic Reconnaissance Course, recon, its recon as in Light Armored Reconnaissance (the guys who drive around in LAVs). An LAR guy would not have gone through Combatant Dive School. Also, by "scout types" I assume you are...

    Hollis BP/W

You can very easily pick up a jacket style BC for under $200. You're right, that's a heck of a deal for a pretty nice BP/W setup, but isn't by any means the cheapest option for a BC out there.

    Question about communicating underwater

How about you stop pretending like your the mod of this forum. I did have something to say, and I did say it. I have a whole lot more to say to you, but I don't feel like violating the TOS, so we'll just leave it alone. But most successful inventors will pay attention to the naysayers...

    Question about communicating underwater

If someone asks for feedback not everyone is going to pat them on the butt and tell them good job. Some people, myself included, are going to give the feedback they feel is appropriate. There's nothing dumb about that. If every inventor was never given any negative feedback, we'd have a lot...

    Question about communicating underwater

So, because people fail to use the buddy system correctly we need a piece of gear that will fix that problem and encourage them to be even further from their buddy? Yet another gimmick piece of gear trying to fix a skill problem.

    Any PS3 owners?

I went with the Xbox 360, which is basically the same except its HD DVD rather than Blu Ray. I have the feeling that, much like owners of Beta VCRs in the 80's, one of us is going to be very upset in the next couple of years. Call of Duty 4 is pretty awesome, though once you beat it you'll...

    Questions from a newbie diver

I can only really speak for myself, but I don't charge students to rent BCs for my classes. I just assume a student is going to need that stuff. I do ask that they provide their own mask, fins, and snorkel, but I'll also loan them that stuff if they really don't want to buy their own. As...

    Questions from a newbie diver

Dude, find a new shop. Sounds to me like they're doing everything in their power to screw you out of as much money as possible. Shops like this are the reason the LDS is slowly going the way of the Dodo and frankly, it disgusts me.

    Mask clearing technique

I don't want to further derail this thread, so I'll just say this and be done. First, I have seen a decent number of purge valves on masks fail. Not all catastrophically, some were just small leaks. But a leak is a leak. Based upon that, and the ease of clearing a mask without the purge...

    Mask clearing technique

And I've used one for six months and had one fail! Sorry! Don't see the point! In adding extra things that can break! If they don't really do! Anything all that much better! Than I can do without them! Kind of like adding in pointless punctuation. Anyway, like I said, I clear my...

    Mask clearing technique

Ever hear of purge valves breaking? I have, that's why purge valves on masks suck. not to mention the uncomfortably stiff part of the mask under your nose on the models with the purge valve there.

Does PADI frown on BP/W over "regular" bc?

Touchy and easily rattled? Really? What are you talking about? And for the record, if you don't think a BP/W is more task loading, then YOU AGREE WITH ME!!! So, um, you wouldn't really be starting any "highschool drama" by saying so. Either way, I'm a bit confused by your...
