    Club Cantamar vs. Cortez Club

I still haven't made it there, other than a one day excursion from Cabo San Lucas (through Manta) which was pretty good. It's under consideration again. Someone else on this board recommended a different outfit altogether called Fun Baja Diving Fun Baja Diving and Excursions in Baja Sur...

    Nicaragua - Pacific side ?

I plan on heading to Nicaragua soon. Would like to do some diving while there. I know there is good diving on the Corn islands in the Caribbean - but I dont know if I will be able to make it that way. Will most likely be around Leon, Granada, and San Juan del Sur. Does anyone here have any...

Divemaster worth it if not going to work in industry?

Here is the update: I went to Utila and dove with Utila Dive Center. I did my AOW (piece of cake) and my Rescue (more challenging, fun, great course, highly recommend it). I was very tempted to stay and do my divemaster there as well. Would have been another 4 weeks or so. Utila is great by...

Do you need to pee while diving? Urination and diving explained.

Yes, there is confusion on whether it is temperature or pressure. The word "immersion" conflates the two. I am going to vote for temperature since I get an urge to pee even bobbing at the surface.

physiology Q3> diving, urination, and osmosis ?

Geez, i feel an urge to pee almost as soon as I jump in the water :blinking: I assume the fluid distribution returns to normal after you dive when you are back on the boat. But by then the excess fluid has already been filtered in to your kidneys, no? Is it better not to give in to the urge to...

physiology Q2> acid reflux / stomach upset while diving?

I am pretty sure it is not nervousness or anxiety. I am an experienced diver and feel pretty relaxed most of the time. I dont think it is garden variety seasickness either because isnt that supposed to get better underwater? (I do have an inner ear condition from an old sports injury that could...

physiology Q1> why am i tired after diving ?

Dives are 50-60 minutes. I dont think it is physical exertion. I am in decent shape. The tanks are the only heavy things and they are usually already on the boat. Once underwater, swimming around feels effortless. Only mild kicking and my breathing stays very relaxed. I can tell i get cold...

physiology Q4> exercise after diving ?

I have heard several times now that one should not exercise after diving but should instead relax and take it easy. Is there any science to this? The reason, i am asking is I experience some fatigue after diving and I thought some light exercise might be beneficial to get some oxygen in to my...

physiology Q1> why am i tired after diving ?

currently on vacation diving in the Caribbean. shorty wetsuit. still feel a little cold underwater, especially on the 2nd dive. I am a pretty thin guy without a lot of natural insulation. Doesn't feel like I am exerting myself much. Just kicking a long. Maintaining slow and steady breaths...

physiology Q3> diving, urination, and osmosis ?

The dive guides always ask us not to pee in the rental wetsuits. I understand the reasons for the recommendation but it always makes me laugh inside. I find this next to impossible. I suspect others to do. I usually have to pee 2 or 3 times per dive. I do try to rinse the wetsuit thoroughly...

physiology Q2> acid reflux / stomach upset while diving?

I also have noticed that i frequently get an upset stomach while diving. It doesn't feel like nausea. It is more like acid in my stomach, some belching. I have occasionally felt like I have had to throw up but never have. Thank goodness regulators are designed to let you vomit through them...

physiology Q1> why am i tired after diving ?

Got about 70 dives under my belt now. Done a bunch in the last 2 to 3 weeks. I am usually pretty tired after diving. I feel sleepy. lethargic. sometimes a little lightheaded. it goes away eventually. Most often with two tank dives but also I think, to a lesser degree, with one tank dives. I...

Divemaster worth it if not going to work in industry?

Thanks for all the input. If I dont plan on working in the industry, I am not sure the time and money is worth it. Right now I am leaning towards a shorter version, getting my AOW. That sounds good. Less of a time and money committment while still improving my diving. Now I have to figure...

"Does This Island Go To The Bottom?" A novel

I started a thread called "What's the Life of A Dive Bum Like?" a little while back because I was curious (and a little bit jealous) of the young dive instructors I would see on vacation. http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/basic-scuba-discussions/468883-what-life-dive-bum-like.html Someone on that...

What happened to the Hammerheads of LaPaz ?

Here is another good article on overfishing in the Sea of Cortez from an organization called Sea Watch. I might donate some money. This over-fishing pains me. But here I am, a wealthy american, upset because I can't see hammerhead sharks when I go scuba diving on vacation. I am sure there is...

Divemaster worth it if not going to work in industry?

I have my open water certification with 30+ dives. Just quit my corporate job and have some free time on my hands. Was considering going for my dive master certification somewhere warm. Looked like about 8 week investment and around $2800. Might be doable. But I don't really need the...

vacation ideas - April / May

I meant at least 3-5 days diving. Trip could be longer. Maybe 7-9 days. Heck maybe longer as long as I can keep it cheap. After further research: Baja/Cabo/Loretto - looks cold with limited vis this time of year. I have been in the Fall and enjoyed it. Bahamas - going to take at least a day...

vacation ideas - April / May

Looking to take a dive trip second half of April or May 2014. Live in the Pacific Northwest. Have 35+ dives under my belt. Looking to dive 3-5 days and keep the total trip (airfare, hotel, diving, food and entertainment) under $2K. I have a preference for bigger fish, large schools, and pelagics...

What is the life of a "dive bum" like ?

Per a suggestion on this thread, I picked up a copy of "Does This Island Go to the Bottom" by Eric Pasley. Only $3 from Amazon to read it on my tablet. Easy, fun read. Pretty entertaining. He worked at 2 or 3 different places in the Caribbean. I forget the first two but the last place was...
