Best regulator for parts availability and diy rebuild

If you want new, then Deep6 or Hog. If you don';t mind a used / older then a USD/AL Conshelf , preferably with a metal second stage or a Scubapro MK5 with a 108 or 109 second stage. Or if you want the best of both , the Conshelf first with a 109 second.

Spare parts for older regs and manifold?

NO!!! No locking compound of any kind. just snug it up. The vast majority of second stages do not have locking clips of any kind so I really don't see the need on this one. This is a plastic to silicone interface so the friction is pretty good on it's own.

Spare parts for older regs and manifold?

The port plug is not available from AL but Bryan at Vintage Double Hose had some generic replacements made a while back. Also, it you don't mind not using the retainer clip....and IMO it's not necessary, you can just use a 1/2 (a little uncommon but they do exist) port plug from a reg.

Can I test my spg without attaching it to a tank?

Always with love. :) This has been a pet issue with me.

    Dacor double hose identification

You can find some Dacor info in the "Manuals and Catalogs" section in the Vintage Double Hose website. Most of the differences between the R models are inside the cans so you have to take them apart to figure out which you have. Unfortunately, repair parts are very hard to come by. You will at...

    Older Sherwoods and Nitrox

I completely agree, I use nitrox (32-36) in all my regs, the regs use nitrile orings and silicone grease. The orings might not last quite as long but then again, they are replaced way before they are affected by the higher O2 to the point of causing a problem.

    FB Find - Sherwood Regulator

axxel57 alluded to this but you need to understand something about Sherwood regs. If you look, there is one special "port plug", the black rubber one in your first photo, that you need to know about. A small stream of bubbles are supposed to "leak" from it at all times. This is a feature of...

Tell me about the Conshelf 14 regulator

Like I said, great reg but no way it's a 2014 model. I did a little catalog digging and found a note indicating the side port was put on the metal second stage started in 1997 and the octo was made between 98 and 2004. I suppose it's possible the adapter we see is a 7/16 to 3/8 to use an older...

Tell me about the Conshelf 14 regulator

The Conshelfs are rock solid regs and the metal first and second could easily outlast you if taken care of. HOWEVER, there is no way that is 2014 model. I am pretty sure I see an adapter on the HP hose at the first stage, that dates the first stage to the mid to late 60s. James above sees the...

    Which Conshelf Model?

From a practical point of view, the model doesn't matter, they all use the same parts with the exception of the 1/2 ports on some and the HP orifice oring on others. At one time Apeks made Zeagles regs including the Sentinel so it's not a surprise that both sold them.

Valve help: converting old LP72s to modern doubles

Those are NPS not NPT. While earlier tanks were NPT (those do use pipe tape) the ones shown are actually 1/2 NPS, note the oring at the top of them. They are not too common but Healthway and Sportways (like these) offered them for a while. I have a couple of them.

    MK5 Question

DOW 111 Unless you are using high O2 levels (+40%) there is no need to use anything else.It much less expensive and more stable than any of the fancy modern lubes.

Mistral - To Grind, or Not to Grind; that is the question

Delrin is a plastic material that is used for a lot of applications like gears and bearings. It is a wonderful material to work with as it machines easily and holds tolerances well. It is what I used for the bodies of the custom DH regs I have made. Nylon is commonly used for LP orifices...

Mistral - To Grind, or Not to Grind; that is the question

It would be easier to make a new one with the correct size hole rather than to modify a AL/VDH one. Don't think delrin is up to the job but a brass one would not be hard to make. Luis, I know the orifice opening is not the correct size and would not perform as well, just thinking a poor...

Mistral - To Grind, or Not to Grind; that is the question

I may have one Mark......and installing a removable orifice is what I have in mind to try.. The body will have to be machined out and if I remember correctly, the opening of the AK/Phoenix seat is a bit larger than optimal but then again , it would be better than an unusable reg body.
