Hello!
I was wondering if anyone could recommend good easy reef diving suitable for a beginner in Indonesia? We are hoping for healthy reefs and shallow (18m and shallower) sites with minimal current. Diving an aquarium would be the ideal basically. I have mostly done muck diving in Indonesia...
Thanks AlMitch (and thanks again everyone else). I think that's strongly influencing us toward Lembeh then. I have to say some of my favorite muck dives have been 2hr+ night dives in less than 10m.
I guess my next question is - does anyone have any recs for good photography guides in Lembeh? We...
Thanks so much for the feedback everyone. Does anyone else have comments about the currents in Ambon vs Lembeh? We both prefer minimal currents when shooting and also prefer more shallow sites.
Hi all.
We are two macro photographers. We have four weeks in Indo (all of January). We have done 3x month long dive trips to Bali before (mostly Pemuteran / Tulamben / Amed / Padangbai). Love the east cost muck particularly but are thinking this time we might do either Ambon or Lembeh too...
It's very very rare that I would leave a poor review of a place and virtually 100% of the many many places I have stayed in the PI have been just great. The sole exception to this was Sogod Bay Scuba Resort. The restaurant staff were very lovely but other than that I have little good to say...
One of the great things about diving is the people who do it. It's such a fantastic way to meet people from all around the world and with all kinds of backgrounds. When you are ready to date again, I find women who dive to often be strong minded independent types - and I think those are great...
Hi mate! Liberty of course gets a great reputation but we stay at puri Madha for a couple of reasons. Firstly they have the best location - smack bang in the middle of the wreck. From their restaurant you have good access to the slope where a lot of the macro action is, and from their dive shop...
Hi Joe. I am an underwater photographer who also dives in the Philippines.
When people are talking about buoyancy they are talking about YOUR buoyancy skills, not your camera. Can you already float perfectly in place neither rising or falling without moving your fins or arms? Please try to be...
I think you did the right thing. You guys agreed to a dive plan and you stuck to it. Don't second guess that instinct. Plan your dive and dive your plan. Occasionally this kind of prudence will mean you lose a dive you might otherwise have had. But chalk that up to experience. This was a useful...
We've actually ended up staying in Tulamben and just doing two day trips down for the jetty. Did see the white/pink RHINOPIA and a number of other wonderful things. They say the jetty is not the dive it once was, but my goodness it was a target rich environment! Did 6 dives in it total...
We've spent ten weeks in the PI in the last two years. I would ditto Centrals. A good itinerary with such limited time. Only caveat is there's not a lot to do topside in Moalboal or Dauin (although the volcano/lake is a good day trip). Bohol isn't the best diving but is the best diving location...
My wife doesn't read scubaboard so I can be completely frank. I LOVE diving with her. I'd say 90% of my dives have been with her by my side. What's with all the hate for holding hands? We do our stops etc with eachother near, but often we will hold hands diving for moments here and ther just...
We have spent ten weeks diving the Philippines in the last two years. I agree with Luko about Anilao. It's incredible there for macro. Dauin we liked for the macro but also the diversity of dive sites and having Apo and Siquijor islands so close.
Luko - who do you use as a guide here in...
I have to say we are loving the diving here. Our first open water dives were in Tulamben and this is our first visit back. Saraya and Malasti are proving quite fruitful although some weird and strong currents today and crazy thermoclines. Did manage to see my first harlequin yesterday! Thanks...
We have dove both sites. We had a TERRIBLE experience with Sogod Bay Scuba Resort. The Australian owner lied to us about dive conditions, lost some of our gear and refused to compensate us (only agreed to give us a partial refund but promised he would take that refund out of the boat crews pay)...
Thank you so much everyone! That is all incredibly helpful. Pura Rai claim to be fully booked and are, indeed, being a bit slack with their emailing so some of this other options look great.
Luko - that photo is magnificent. May I ask what your strobe position and power was to get that light...
Matts - thanks for sharing your pics! Luko - wow. You're making me excited. I see you have dove Anilao also. If this is half as good I will be happy :) Dirtfarmer - thanks for the tips! Jake - thanks for the confirmation.
I didn't know there were bumblebee shrimp in these parts! Only time I...
