Question Source for tank protection net.

Not really. Without the net, the gap between the boot and the tank is very narrow, trapping inside humidity for days and sand/dirt potentially for ever. With the net on the other hand, the gap is bigger hence air circulates through it and dirt can escape. Whatever water is in there dries within...

Question Source for tank protection net.

Would somebody be kind enough to elaborate? Here in Europe they are very common and I can't see any negatives. The only problem I can see is if they would trap water between the net and the boot at the bottom of the tank - something that doesn't happen as the net is made of braided nylon string...

Going into Deco as Rec Diver

The problem is that if you dive in a way that might lead to short deco, might also probably lead you to not knowing what your computer is saying (because you've never seen your DC in deco mode before), and/or a short deco might easily become a long(-ish) deco without realising it and as a result...

Trip Report Scuba Junkie Komodo: sketchy diving practices

For whatever it worths here is my experience doing a LoB with SJ Komodo (Eliya): - About nitrox use, it was available as an option (with some extra cost). I considered it as a must as the plan was to do 4 dives a day / 20 dives total over 6 days. Looking at my logs though, Ι never surfaced with...

Going into Deco as Rec Diver

I think it is a quite common mistake "new" active divers eventually do at least once. See here my case for example : Past NDL. And then this??? It is not the end of the world, but it is a mistake. Even diving (repeatedly) close to NDL (NDL riding is called) is a mistake and shouldn't happen...

How do you wind up DSMB while ascending?

Something not mentioned so far is that usually there is at least a bit of current and/or waves and/or wind on the surface which tend to push the DSMB away from you. Or you are fining/moving anyway and the DSMB lags behind you. Hence the string is not hanging loose vertically down from the...

    Advice Kri/Mansuar/Misool please

Welcome to Scubaboard. I've commented on several similar threads recently, eg: https://scubaboard.com/community/threads/a-land-based-mini-tour-of-raja-ampat-itinerary-assistance-pls.653583/ Your plan generally doesn't look bad. Have you considered the hours/days needed to move from one place...

Question Need to Buy the Raja Ampat Marine Park Card

Last time I was there (2 years ago) you could pay for it on the spot, in the Waisai tourist/homestay info center using card. There was no need to carry cash for this. To be honest, assuming one passes from Waisai, I can't see any advantage getting it online.

Info Kri island raja ampat advice

No I haven't dived any of the operators mentioned. Moving between homestays given you only have 6 days is indeed waste of time and I wouldn't recommend this. What I actually suggest is to scrap you plan to stay on the particular homestay (assuming you can change your booking) and book with...

Info Kri island raja ampat advice

I wouldn't limit myself on the island of Kri itself. There are several other good homestays (with diving ops on site) on other islands (such as Gam but not only) but near enough that all of them dive essentially the same sites. 1st Edit: Sorry just noticed you've already booked your...

    Misool homestays ?

I know there are several homestays in the area (listed in the link I gave you above). I've also used airbnb quite a lot through the years, but that's irrelevant to the discussion. English is not a requirement to enjoy your stay indeed (that's again irrelevant to the discussion) , but how do...

    Misool homestays ?

In the past there was a surge of fake accounts in airbnb/booking.com etc claiming to represent local families' homestays in those platforms. I'm not sure you are aware of what homestay is. Most of them don't even have doors and/or windows and owners barely speak any english (quite often), so I...

A land-based mini-tour of Raja Ampat... itinerary assistance pls..

It's a bit difficult to explain and for people who haven't been there to comprehend. The same transfer that in one day takes half an hour, next day might take hours and on top of that there is usually nothing the visitor can do other than wait. Things like weather, miscommunications, running...

    Cressi computer problem

Apart from not knowing how to use his/her dive computer, the OP also seems to not understand that the bcd's inflate/deflate buttons do not work the same way that elevator's up / down buttons work. I hope I am wrong in both of these assumptions. BTW welcome to scubaboard @marty5797 !!

A land-based mini-tour of Raja Ampat... itinerary assistance pls..

It depends on a lot of factors. For example, how many days do you plan to stay in the area in total? How many of these days are you willing to sacrifice to move around (things are slow in the area - moving around usually means no diving on that day). My first two visits in the area (3 weeks in...

A land-based mini-tour of Raja Ampat... itinerary assistance pls..

Keep in mind that supplies come from Waisai, hence in general the further west you go, the more primitive things get (including food, comfort, language and general organization). Exceptions are big villages like Arborek and Sawandarek.

Question Need to Buy the Raja Ampat Marine Park Card

Most current information should be here: https://www.stayrajaampat.com/ultimate-raja-ampat-guide/information/raja-ampat-marine-park-entry-permit/ The usual way most visitors used last time(s) I've been there was to issue the permit upon arrival to Waisai. There is a dedicated office for this...

A land-based mini-tour of Raja Ampat... itinerary assistance pls..

Sorry I can't help you with your request per se, but just to comment on your plan: 4-5 days (10-15dives ) on Arborek sound too much to me. There are indeed few "must do" dive sports near there (eg manta sandy) but not as many. I'd guess that eventually you will have to spend few days diving...

A land-based mini-tour of Raja Ampat... itinerary assistance pls..

I've stayed in Corepen (on Gam island) for 3 weeks in total (over two trips) and for a homestay diving op it was amazing. It was before Covid though, so I'm not sure if things are still top notch (look for recent reviews to get an idea of how things are now). They (used to) dive the area from...

Can you wear jacket under drysuit?

In principle you could, assuming it can provide enough insulation (highly improbable), but be careful with things like zippers, rings, grommets and other hard accessories usually fount on topside clothing. They get very uncomfortable underwater once squeezed by the hydrostatic pressure.
