Croatian/Adriatic diving is mostly on walls and wrecks (no tides to worry about, but can sometimes have some current). In the northern parts visibility is about 5-10m, southern 20-30m (it gets better as you go south but the depth also increases). Typical dive is to at least 30m depth and down...

This should have been covered on your course... I can only add that you need to add more expirience (dives) and maybe try another instructor for your next course... As far as ascent goes practice next to bottom (nice slopes) so you can grab something if you start going to fast... Don't do it...

that's too much... I just do a visual "dressing" rehersal... 1. hood 2. both peaces of wet suit 3. socks, boots 4. gloves 5. mask 6. regulators, plate and wing 7. fins 8. weights 9. comp, camera and light if needed And cylinders if not already onboard... Everything else is not really needed...

I will pee if I really have to but then I'll take it off in the sea (not on the boat)...

Istrian centers tend to be much more proffesional then the southern ones (a lot of italians come there) so you shouldn't have a problem finding a good one. Choosing the right one depends on where you'll be staying... this is in croatian but there is a map and a list of centers so try contacting...

outside temp. will be around 20C (but can vary a lot), sea temp. is 12-18C in april... which part of Croatia are you going to?

gimp should be better but picassa may be easier for you to use... I use gimp and have no problem with it's UI (I hear they changed in the latest release) YMMV...

just do it, look at it as a fun way to learn something and do some diving at the same time... depth is not limited by your courses but by your head... (and experience)
