shore diving in cozumel without being a resort guest

No problem at Blue Angel. You'll have to fill out their paperwork and pay for whatever you need to use of theirs, but I have seen non guests shore diving when I was staying there.

UW Camera gear tax and ferry help

That was not my experience in May departing Cozumel. Per the directive by the airline (not really US rules), my spare lithium ion batteries were in insulated cases in my camera case in my carry on and there was no problem at security.

Looking for a dive shop offering 4 dives a day

If you've read much ScubaBoard you probably know that afternoon dives on Cozumel are usually provided on an on demand basis rather than being regularly scheduled like morning dives, and different ops have different policies as to the minimum number of divers and timing for signup. It can be done...

Camera question at the airport ?

It strikes me as a silly question; who coming into Cozumel could truthfully answer that they have neither? Got a cellphone? Most of them are both.

    Some pics from Aug/Sept trip

My reef map doesn't show any of those names. What better known reefs are they near?

Villablanca Gardens Hotel, any recent reports?

I stayed there for a few days a couple of years ago. It's not a 5 star hotel, but it was clean and quiet, and the pier across the street is convenient for dive and fishing boat pickup. I would stay there again if Blue Angel were full up.

Ultramar Ferry suspended for exceeding capacity

The ferry in the picture is named Xel-Ha. I guess they aren't superstitious. :D

Yep, she does that. The last time we were there she came over and pointed out a party of 25+ that were starting to order and if we delayed ordering we'd be behind them in the kitchen line.

Boo -KAHN-ohs. It's not hype; it's the real deal. Buccano's is very popular, especially on weekends; reservations are recommended. Their website is in English and easy to navigate, but alternatively your hotel front desk can call them for you.

You got your miracle for the day, yes? :D Buccano's is one of my faves as well; the location, food, and atmosphere are superb. We held my mom's 90th birthday party there with 28 people, and the staff could not have been more accommodating and supportive. If I could only have one dinner out on...

When I heard that they were moving into that little building in the middle of Hotel Villablanca I thought it was a terrible idea for both The Pub and the guests of the hotel. I'm not surprised it didn't work out.

    dive shop recommendation

That pretty much includes most to all of them. You can narrow your search a bit if you know whether you like a small fast boat or a slower larger one, if you want an op that handles all your equipment (which you pay for), and if you are content to dive on an AL80 tank (nearly all ops) or a...

Yeah, it's near the north end of the hotel zone. It's well worth the trip, though; it's a must-do for us on every trip to Cozumel. Sit outside if you can. Reservations are recommended.

If I had to pick one seafood restaurant for my last night on Cozumel, it would have to be Buccano's. All the food there is excellent; I recommend the Lobster Mac and Cheese. It's a beautiful place, too.

Thanks; Amazon changed their policy since last I tried to order N95s. I have some on the way.

Where did you get them? I got KN95 masks on Amazon but they would not sell me N95s

But Kinta's sister restaurant, Kondesa, is still operating, and it is excellent. Some of my other faves: 'Ohana (owned and run by Blue Angel DM Mateo and his wife), Casa Cuzamil, La Perlita, La Choza, El Moro, Buccano's at Night, Casa Mission, Pancho's Backyard, and the restaurant at Blue Angel.
