    Double Hose backplate

Thanks tbone. I’ve got a couple revisions in mind already but I like how this one turned out so far. Looking forward to diving it.

    Double Hose backplate

I have made some revisions to the classic double hose backplate design and this is what I plan on testing next time I’m out diving. I liked the ability to use a single piece of webbing like my HOG plate uses so I mixed the two designs and came up with the design pictured.

    My Compressor build

Mounted feet on the base plate, mounted the fan guard, mounted the hour meter holder, wired the hour meter, wired the motor, used nylocks on everything to combat vibration as well as rubber isolators on the fan shroud and hour meter mount. I’m thinking about leaving the metal raw in finish...

Some more progress today. Made a fan guard and a mount to hold the hour meter.

    My Compressor build

Success!!! I made a janky fill station using a hp hose and a regulator I currently use as a tank checker so I could test run my compressor. It runs and builds pressure! I was scared I was going to lose a finger in the fan but I managed. I feel justified in spending the time and money I’ve...

    My Compressor build

Got a little bit done today. Welded on the motor/compressor base plate, gusseted it, cut the first piece of the fan shroud, mounted the on/off switch, temporarily wired the motor, and ran it to check for rotation. Getting excited. Probably oil up the compressor tomorrow, put the belt on, and...

    My Compressor build

Don’t be impressed with me. I’m simply following some directions when it came to modifying the compressor. The metal work is easily drawn in a cad program by any monkey and an expensive machine does the rest. However, I do appreciate your kind words and it is an enjoyable process.

I have a copy as well. It calls for a 3450 rpm motor with a 4” pulley. The compressor gets a 2” pulley according to the article. This figures out to a final compressor rpm of 6900.

Thank you for the kind words. I have a pic of your compressor saved on my computer and believe it or not it’s the one that gave me the inspiration to build this one.

    My Compressor build

Got the vibration isolators that tbone suggested installed between the compressor and the mounting plate. Also measured, ordered and installed the drive belt. I’m expecting the electric cord and switch assembly to be delivered tomorrow. Also will cut the mounting plate base and start...

    My Compressor build

Model is a 32-R-300. It’s a bit different than the one used in the Popular Mechanics magazine so it required a few different modifications. Built in motor was a 24 volt dc motor. I removed the brushes as mentioned in the conversion instructions and it’s now driven with a 3450 rpm 120/240 volt...

    My Compressor build

I am currently piecing together a small compressor based on plans from decades old Popular Mechanics. I modified the compressor loosely following the directions. I’m using a 1/2 horsepower electric motor. Tonight I cnc plasma cut the plate that mounts both the motor and compressor from 3/16”...

I thought being in this this forum the answer to your first question was self explanatory. Your second "question" is simply a statement with a question mark after it. But yes, a coiled fill whip. The compressor is a .6 cfm and rated to 1500 psi. It gets overdriven and can pump to 3000 psi.
