    Prescription Masks

You all who are near-sighted can check out the HYDROOPTIX mask. It is a radical deviationfrom the normal mask, and really makes sense. It doesn't work at all for people with 20/20 vision. 20/20 People who use it have to use contacts. Why? You can see 3.5 x more stuff! It really makes...

Mounting UK Light Cannon to Housing??

Interesting with the HID light... I'd be interested in how it handles., maybe following in your footsteps.(again) I blinded everyone with my halogen light, anyway... the waters of the PNW have a bit more fog than you might get there in FL. With the halogen it's like driving with your high beams...

    DIY Video Housing a success...

I'm just guessing it'd be easier to beef up a water resistant seal to being waterproof than grinding out an o-ring seal from scratch. You'll have to tell me how you rigged up the LED's.. new terrritory for me. I've built a dive light like Padipro's, with some modifications, of course. It'd be...

    DIY Video Housing a success...

Hey Scott... I'm going to go for this one. I've been out of diving for about a year for medical reasons, now it's time to get wet again. But this time I need a new toy! Did you get my message about pond lights for a possible method of having two sealed lights? Would love your thoughts...

Mounting UK Light Cannon to Housing??

Hey there, long time no speak. Padipro, I was walking through Home Depot and saw some 20 watt halogen double lights for ponds. Have you experimented with these for diving? Seems like they would already be primed for diving, especially for lighting on a video housing. There are tons of these...

    DIY Video Housing a success...

Just bought a canon dv recorder so I can follow in your footsteps. Question: Buoyancy. Positive? Negative? I am definitely going to build something similar, if not exactly, like what you've done here. Expect to hear more form me in the future!

    BP/Wings cheaper than BCD???

I have a DIr Abyss backplate and webbing, and a non-DIR wings, with way too much lift (80#!) ... I love them! As a DIY guy I took way too long and made a single tank adapter out of stainless plate, and that has to be the best setup I could imagine. It's also cool that everything is RED...

How much BC lift do I require?

I thought I'd put my .02 in: Here in the PNW I'm the only wetsuit diver I know! It's a 7 mm suit, and after the rescue diver course in a jacket style BC that advertised 42# of lift, I decided that #1 42# is not 42 # when the bc is a jacket style bc. It simply sqeezes your chest to the...

    DIY Canister Light and Lighthead

A-HA. I see why my last lightheads failed now.. I was trying seal the bulb behind the bulb, not in front of it. All that work and thought, wasted. Well, the NEXT one will be better!

Any simple plans for a 12v 7ah can?

I chipped my canister, as well. Your best hope is that you can move the clips down on the can and reuse it. I found that a Dremel tool with a cutting disc will more melt it's way thru acrylic, much less traumatic than trying to saw through. If I was going to saw this material, it'd be...

    DIY Canister Light and Lighthead

So, when you look at that picture abovewith the Philips bulb... I didn't grind out the maglight at all. Does it look like that's going to be okay without further grinding?

    DIY Canister Light and Lighthead

The pic I took didn't have an oring under the bulb, but now I realize that's only for pressure fitting? It looks like the oring ABOVE the bulb is the one that really seals the lighthead in the front. the others seem to simply maintain pressure on the crucial one, the oring between the bulb...

    DIY Canister Light and Lighthead

and a Philips bulb, without the oring in place. Sorry about the Teflon tape. You can see how the bulb sits down in the groove already. I think it was a sylvania bulb I used first, and it didn't fit , requiring some grinding out of the groove. My opinion, for what its worth, use the...

    DIY Canister Light and Lighthead

Acrylic is a pain in the butt! I would definitely do the UHMW plastic lid, or 3/4" polypropylene again. It's stiff, and no worries about cracking. Only problem is that it's impossible to glue to. Eh, drive in a screw and who cares.. you can't see it after it's in like acrylic. Padipro...

    Making a doubles system

I am going doubles, too. If you check my thread I was looking for plans... someone came up with them. The manifold seems to be to one sticking point. DIR guys say there's only one way, of course. I am making my own doubles setup as we speak and will post it upon completion.

    DIY Canister Light and Lighthead

I didn't think that there was a diffence in bulbs, but even minor changes in the bulb can change tolerances. I found some really cheap MR-16 Bulbs at Ikea, and found that they have a ledge on the surface of the bulb.... no way to use them for this light. The Philips brand seems to make theirs...

    DIY Canister Light and Lighthead

Don't deepen the groove just yet. I did it on my last light and I suspect that is where the light flooded. Try using the Phillips lightbulb and a proper-sized oring.. It will probably work out fine without it. If you do, I used a Dremel tool with a sanding disc on it.

DIY dive gear successes and failures

There's a better, easier solution put up here by a guy named "Pipedope"... use stainless shackles from West Marine and 10/32 Philips screws. Mine work GREAT, and not only are they 3000x stronger, they look better, too.
