Trip Report A month in Cozumel (Oct-Nov 2021)

For some reason that makes me feel very uneasy. What if something shows up that you would rather did not? Irrational, maybe. Too many monster movies when I was a kid, maybe. Whatever the reason, for night diving I'll stick with a group in shallow water.

Finding a (Best) Dive Op in Cozumel

I'll just add that in my opinion most of the differences between dive ops on Cozumel are superficial, and most of them are about the boat ride.

    Bicycle rental in Coz

I'm not surprised nor do I blame them; you were asking them to help you find an alternative to taking a cab to get around.

    Bicycle rental in Coz

I found out the same thing when I borrowed a bike from Blue Angel for a trip into town. I didn't fall but I came close a couple of times.

Trip Report Why I Won't Be Returning to Cozumel-Part 1,2&3

All I can say in reply to the title of this thread is that I will be returning to Cozumel as long and as often as I can. DSFDF and YMMV.

    American airline troubles

    I really miss Continental.

    El Moro needs help

I don't see it on their menu. I see a "gulf octopus" but there's no mention of su tinta (its ink).

    American airline troubles

I have no doubt that sometimes the issue is indeed a mechanical, as in aviation hardware, issue, but I would be willing to bet that other issues sometimes get swept into that classification for PR concerns.

    El Moro needs help

Ah, yes. Typing before coffee will do that. :D But speaking of pulpo, a dish that used to be available at several restaurants on Cozumel was pulpo in su tinta - octopus in its ink. I really liked it but no one offers it any more.

Cozumel - any experience staying at Residencias Reef?

I have been on boats with mixed divers where when the DM asked where we want to go on the second dive, he nixed going to reefs like Tormentos because we had divers to return to a southern resort. That was fine with me; a boat ride from Tormentos to a southern resort and then back to (in my case)...

    American airline troubles

I think that "mechanical problem" is a catchall term that could mean just about anything. I think it's spin doctoring to make the delay more palatable to inconvenienced passengers; no one wants to fly in a broken plane.

    El Moro needs help

My most recent fave at El Moro is their pulpo [correction - caracol] con ajo - grilled conch in garlic butter over rice with black beans on the side. I ask for mucho ajo; I moosh it all together and scarf it down, but I won't post a picture because it looks like a hot mess. Top it off with a...

Cozumel - any experience staying at Residencias Reef?

Mixing divers who are staying close to town with divers staying far south presents a logistical challenge to a dive op. For the first dive it doesn't make much difference, but for the second dive it's unlikely that the op will want to go, for example, to Tormentos, unless the divers staying...

    El Moro needs help

Well, like a lot of other restaurants it's got a lot of hard flat surfaces that reflect sound, so, yes, like a lot of other restaurants it can get pretty loud in there if 20+ people are sitting at one table all talking at the same time, drinking, and trying to be heard at the other end of the...

    American airline troubles

FWIW most of their troubles have been in the last few months.

    El Moro needs help

Frankly, I wouldn't do either of those things. Endure, move, or leave is all I would consider, and I have done all three at one time or another. Confronting someone about their behavior, especially when alcohol is involved, doubly especially in front of their peers, is risky and unlikely to end...

    El Moro needs help

Ah. You've never been there. El Moro is not a bar scene of any sort; it is a small-ish family run restaurant back in a residential part of town. It's true that there are many great restaurants on Cozumel; El Moro is right up there amongst them. If you skip it it's your loss. I have been there...

    El Moro needs help

That's a bit of an overreaction, IMO, but whatever floats yer boat. I have seen "big loud tables" in many restaurants; I don't think one is particularly more likely to encounter one at El Moro than at any other restaurant on Cozumel.
