I cannot speak for DIR but I do not see any place that forbids a swivel/angle adapter in the Hogarthian playbook. And this is the Hog sub forum, not the DIR sub forum. I (probably) would not want an angle adapter on my 7 foot hose rig and I might avoid them if I were still doing penetration diving. But I do have and use the swivel adapters and like them. I prefer the 110 degree swivels on my open water kits be they on a 40 inch or a 60 inch hose. I find there is less tug on my mouth and teeth and that the hose does not loop outward nearly as much. Keeping the long hose tucked in cleanly, IMO, is worth the extra connection and in use they have not proven to be anything but reliable. As to interfering with air sharing, I have not found that to be an issue, if anything the swivels improve access to the donated primary. YRMV.

I use a 90 on my long hose for comfort and as a side benefit it helps streamline my profile in the water so I don't have the hose in a big loop sticking out so far to the right. I also use a 15" hose for my necklace backup regulator for the same reason, to eliminate a large loop of hose.

The "HOG Playbook" stresses minimalism and getting rid of additional failure points. If you don't need it, don't bring it. If it adds more o-rings into the system, it adds more failure points into the system.

FWIW, last week I was using a borrowed deco reg that had a swivel adapter. The swivel adapter failed while I was on deco, bubbles everywhere. Spent 25 minutes fluttering the valve to manage the problem. Not much fun.

Some light reading on the "HOG Playbook":

1. Article by some guy named Jarrod. The Hogarthian Gear Configuration

Thank you @kensuf for the historical articles. Will go into my library.
Find it interesting that in a few pictures where hose donation is shown, the diver is on his knees. Doesn't bother me though.

He's also in a wetsuit and has his hand over the second stage in a way that blocks the purge button. :D

Remember, that article was written over 30 years ago. Things evolve.
