Never drive faster than 60 mph on the hiway. Stay in the right lane and save...

You try and stay at 60 here and you’ll get run over. Even if you’re in the right lane.

You're rationalizing.

If you go 50 you will save even more :)! Might not end up cheaper however as you will either get hit by some idiot in the back or get a tocket for going too slow :)

It’s the realIty of IL roads. You ARE risking getting hit if you drive slower than the rest of traffic on the road. Speed demons here.

In Ontario the right lane is unofficially a passing lane :)

Use your flashers if you'll feel safer.

Marie is not wrong. The speed limit is a legal maximum but a social minimum. Drive slower (except in weather conditions that require it) and you are likely to get run off the road, or at least tailgated severely.
Not to mention that my time is worth something too, often more than a few ounces of gas.

Depends on what state you are in as to whether that is legal or not. In some states, they can only be used while stopped.

Added: Per AAA, generally not permitted to use them while driving in...Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia (unless you are going slower than 30 mph or in a funeral procession), Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin. This is the majority of the states.

This has gotta be one of the best examples of patchwork-quilt driving regulations in the US. For example, DandyDon (in Texas) can use his flashing hazard lights if he is going slow, but he has to turn them off to get out of Texas, becasue Texas is urrounded by no-no states.
