WHAT PART? What is hyperbolic is the idea that Goliath Grouper have an impact on game fish—and thus must be fished. You paying $500 to kill one so you can have a photo? It’s ridiculous.

YOUR ENTIRE POST.

Please look up definition of hyperbolic. Thanks.

Neglected is the fact that they have recovered to different degrees in different areas of their previous range.
They may be capable of harvest in some of the areas north of the fish desert that comprises S FL and Keys but not all.
I'm not against harvest but agree this is stupid to just about everyone on both sides which is sometimes a good sign of compromise, in this case I think it's just a sign of typical government incompetence.

Just curious how any of the fisherman in this thread can justify harvest of this species given the present population data from REEF as presented earlier in this thread. There is no justifcation for harvesting a species which basically only exists in SE/SW FL at this point. Less than 25% of its original range. Fisherman did that, as well.

They are on almost every single artificial reef ul to at least Jacksonville and I've seen them on artificials in SC. I don't care if they get fished, I'm not interested in catching any. And I wouldn't trust REEF to inventory the rolls of toilet paper in a portalet given the make up of the organization and it's leadership and thier attitude towards widespread closures of the Florida Keys.
I'm glad most of the fisheries management government agencies have a diverse group of user groups involved in formulating management plans and not just the kooks at either end of the spectrum. The US has one of the healthiest stocks of fish in the developed world as a result.

I think there are plenty of fish in the sea for sportsmen to pursue without including the GG.

Kind of like hunting cows, yeah, they are good to eat, but where is the sport and challenge. It smacks of greed to me.

Huh?

I'm guessing you don't fish. Because when you fish, you can't really control what you hook. And nobody is "pusuing" anything with a fishing pole.
