I just picked up some Dacron (polyethylene) cave line to tie bolt snaps to various places. I find that a reef (square) knot comes undone very easily with this line. It will get better when I burn & seal the ends, but still I'd prefer the knot to be more reliable.

I don't have any nylon line on me right now. How does it compare to polyethylene when it comes to knots?

Dacron is polyester and it holds knots reasonably well and had neutral buoyancy

Nylon holds knots less well

Polyethylene is floaty and holds knots least well

Ah, I meant PET (polyethylene) and not polyester (what I originally said). I've edited my original post.

all dacron is polyester, not all polyester is dacron, and all PET is polyester but not all polyester is PET. In terms of non-textile/materials engineering, they're all the same though.

you dont want floaty polypropylene line - which also doesnt hold knots

Nylon is the default standard, polyester/dacon is fine
