Car key storage during shore dive?

I fall into this camp too, but I did see OP said he didn't want to do what we do. I love walking up to the back of the van with all my gear on, swinging my foot under the rear (for hands free) and having it unlock / open for me. I'm not fancy....but that feels pretty fancy.

I think his concern is for carrying conventional keys or combo fob-keys not the later electronic ones.

Probably pretty obvious but I have stuck them under the gas cap lid when no one is looking. Also hidden in my receiver hitch since I drive my truck to the beach. Since I have the hitch, I'm planning to get one of these:

We use this shore diving in bonaire. We place the key in in a ziplock bag inside the container just in case a small leak or some condensation.

With the prius I can’t lock it with the key in it so it goes into a baggie and carried in the under garments. Since it’s keyless I only need to touch the door to lock or unlock

What if you wrap the key in aluminum foil or put it in a small metal box?

I just lock mine in my ford and use the key pad numbers to unlock the doors.
Before I had a ford, I hid the key under the car or I carried the valet key.

I like the fact I can lock and unlock without messing with anything beyond the baggie.
