I've used the 3M 1080 carbon fiber wrap for several projects. It's worth the extra cost as it holds up much better than the cheap stuff off eBay. It comes in several colors and sizes and you can order it on Amazon.
From the Facebook discussion, it sounds like the guy came up with a PVC tube extension. No indication on what he used to join the tubes (I think someone said 3-D printed PVC), how it will hold up at depth, or if the seal between tube sections will leak due to less than perfect edge finish. Looking at the risk of flooding, the Tech tube doesn't sound all that expensive, especially for the upgrade price for existing Blacktip owners

It is an extension (sc80 PVC). He’s got some other photos, and the finish looks better than what dive-x has on their seals.
Tighter fit than the dive-x tube and uses the same sizes of O-Rings already used.
Seems like a promising fix! (For the travel tube for those that were told to buy a 5K Pirana if they wanted trim).

This is what I decided to do, I wanted to use my wrist compass in a DSS mount and I wanted it to also remain easily detachable to put back on my wrist at any time. So with a Dremel, drill, and hyperfocused determination digging around stuff at the dive shop for stuff to "repurpose"
I used some steel compressor line we had left over, some aluminum left over from making the trimix blending panel we made, and bungee scraps.

For folks who have vinyl wrapped their DPVs: I got a couple of swatches of vinyl wrap. One just didn't work. But the other worked much like the wraps on the YouTube car wrap videos. However, I did a test in which I put a square on the tube and heated it and pressed on it, and another where I put a square on the tube and pressed on it without heating it. After awhile I peeled them each up, and it didn't seem as if the heated square had stuck any more firmly than the unheated square. Is heating just to make stretching easier, which I pretty much wouldn't be doing anyway except near the edge? Because I'm wondering how it makes a difference.
