Referencing the OP's circumstance only...not being a vintage gear diver/specialist...he is going to run into trouble time and time again...not to mention paying through the nose for what he doesn't know keeping old pieces in serviceable condition...even finding neck ''O'' rings will be a challenge...

Just my opinion...but this is no way for a novice...if in fact he is a novice to get started...these pieces aren't vintage...for vintage sake...they're just old/obsolete...there is a better way...and dollar for dollar...the better way is a better way...you can throw money at these pieces until you're blue in the face...and in the end...their still old/obsolete...with questionable..if any...value...

Cylinder/valves like this came into my former employers shop from time to time...either...donated/trade/other...they went directly to the scrap cylinder/valve storage room...and then to the scrap yard...

Where did you get all of this ridiculous information? The valve rebuild kits are the same as any normal valve of that design which are still made today in 3/4". The only difference is they use a 116 o-ring instead of a 214. The 116 is not a standard o-ring for scuba diving, but it's definitely a standard industrial o-ring and is widely available. They require no more money than any other steel tank... He may run into trouble if he goes to shops that are ignorant like your former employer obviously is and passed that misinformation onto you, but at that point you need to find another dive shop.

That's your opinion...

As far as an arrogant employer...employers are in business to make a to make a profit selling new gear...for which manufacturers also provide warranties...and both have some level of liability comfort... not much profit/liability comfort selling these pieces...these pieces are flee marketeer...not dive shop...

And...going back to an earlier post...regarding keeping spares...for which you seem to feel there is no need......these industrial supplier sourced ''O'' rings...if you don't have a baggie full...good luck finding one in a hurry...and why would you bother...when any ''modern'' ''Save-A-Dive'' ''O'' ring kit has all the emergency replacement ''O'' rings you need...when you need them...PROVIDING YOU HAVE A MODERN CYLINDER/VALVE...

you're missing the point. It is a modern valve and can still be purchased today. I linked to the modern valve parts kit and recommended keeping a few neck o-rings since that is the only nonstandard part. If a dive shop refuses to service these just because of the neck, then that is shady business practice and you need a new dive shop.

You said you need to be well stocked with spares. I said the only thing you need to be "well stocked" on was the neck o-ring because everything else is standard. You seem to believe that just because that one o-ring which is not proprietary is not in a standard valve kit, that the whole bottle needs to be replaced which is ridiculous. Literally no different than saying you need to get rid of all of your Apeks and Mares first stages that have the single 1/2" port plug on them. That o-ring is not included in the standard parts kit, so should you scrap these first stages just because of that? By your logic the answer is yes.

Half inch port plug...wasn't that back when a dive light was a candle inside a plastic bag...this is apples and oranges...and vintage as opposed to old/hard to get parts for a novice...

I'm sure your dive locker is enviable...to some...for the novice...not so much...and exactly what does this novice ask for when he contacts the industrial ''O'' ring supplier...size/size/hardness/material...no problems with any of this with a save-a-dive ''O'' ring kit...

You're thinking of you/your ability/your arsenal...try thinking about the OP...

how is that apples to oranges? It's literally the exact same scenario. A single o-ring is the only difference that separates the old Apeks regs from the current Apeks regs and that o-ring is not included in the service kits. A single o-ring is the only difference between the valve on that cylinder and a modern valve. Every other part is exactly the same.

As far as the o-rings?
From Dive Gear Express, in the right size/durometer/material and to make it easy, the chart on the bottom of the o-ring sheet says
116 15/16 in Cylinder with Small Neck/Valve (7/8 UNF - "Genesis" 3500 psi Steel cylinders)
Viton O-Ring, Brown, Qty of Five | Dive Gear Express®
from @Scubagaskets in the right size/duro/material and from their application guide which is not nearly as clear/obvious as the DGX description, but still there
116 Genesis tank valve; BCD Inflator Mechanisms; Paintball Guns
Scuba Dive O-'rings EPDM 85 Sh-AP1166
from the same dive shop that I linked for the parts kits and their description
HP Tank Neck O-Rings –Viton (1 to a pack) This is the o-ring used on high pressure tanks. This only fits tanks that are stamped as 3500psi. All the others use LP Tank Neck O-Rings
HP Tank Neck O-Rings - Viton

Actually, I'll retract my previous statement because this parts kit does actually include that o-ring
Service Parts for Thermo Valves | Dive Gear Express®

Good grief, you can get orings for 7/8" necks at local fastener stores, MacMaster-Carr, Home Depot or Harbor Freight even. In no way is it a specialty part.

Suggest letting the OP know...I'm not the one in need...

The OP wanted a burst disk and got one.
You're the one who wanted him to replace the tank

I just think that when someone is starting out...and looking to make things simple...not to mention reliable...there is a much better way...and in the long run...less expensive...

How long do you think it will be before some shop...somewhere questions the serviceability of this cylinder/valve...and the OP is going to end up doing...what he likely should have done in the first place...

If the OP is happy...that's fine...

this is the problem, self professed experts who are far from it ........spouting garbage just to hear themselves talk ...tbone your right with EVERYTHING you said ....thank god ww's gone ....he was banned from DS and RBW and CDF.....for posting drivel and garbage ...... i hope for ever
