Unfortunately ‘anywhere’ is on lockdown until at least Oct 1st....rumour is that it will be extended as well...

Do any of you honestly think the QRoo tourism council just up and decided to make this announcement on their own without approval from the QRoo government? Or that they're the group that picked June 1st?

If you do, well bless your heart.

YES! They have no authority other than to promote tourism! There is also a difference between the tourism COUNCIL and the government!

This TODAY:
Quintana Roo government rejects June 1 reopening by hotels
'We're still not ready,' says Governor Joaquín

The government of Quintana Roo has quashed the hopes of optimistic Quintana Roo hotels that expected to reopen on June 1.

Tourism Minister Marisol Vanegas Pérez burst a few bubbles when she said that “it’s not true that they’ll be able to reopen, since the companies themselves don’t determine that, nor the market. It will be the federal and state governments.”

She added that the only hotels that should be open for the foreseeable future are those providing service for people carrying out activities deemed essential during the coronavirus pandemic.
Swimming pools, gyms, spas and other tourist services will remain closed until conditions allow, as reopening early could lead to “disastrous [public health] situations,” Vanegas said.

Although she could not give a specific date, Vanegas did say that they can expect to begin to return to something resembling normal sometime in June.
“Yes, they’ll be able to open in a preparatory fashion by means of a health certification issued by the Quintana Roo government, which will be voluntary and not obligatory. The main objective is for businesses to be prepared to return to activities on a still unspecified date in June,” she said.

First of all, and respectfully, all that says is that as of this moment, hotels don't have the right to open on June 1st. You yourself have pointed out that things change daily.

Second, that announcement applies to hotels. Not the tens of thousands of Airbnbs/private home/room rentals.

Third, (and thank you for quoting the whole article, not just the points you agree with), she twice mentions re-opening in June. That could mean June 31st or any other date in June.

You are exhausting

June 1 is not happening for anyone other than essential businesses - and sorry, dive shops are not essential - I'm putting that out there - you are the one I want to say "bless your heart" to if you think it will

Sorry that someone disagreeing with your opinion exhausts you. Try vitamins.

And the only thing I said would happen on June 1st was the exact same thing the government has announced twice....a staggered return to work.

For you and reef hound, here are some things I never said and don't expect to happen on June 1st in Cozumel:

  • all dive shops open
  • port and marine park open
  • all bars and restaurants open
  • all hotels open
  • the island to be overrun by tourists
  • free beer handouts by the Red Cross
  • dogs and cats living together
  • the Rapture

The Rapture has been scheduled for early November.

Six new Covid cases here in the last two days. Playa has increased in cases every day for maybe the last two weeks. Cases in study is back up as high as it’s ever been. Bright spot is Cancun is slightly down - but the sum total is staying the same, 300-350 active cases in Q Roo every day and it’s been that way for three if not four solid weeks.

There’s no trend downward other than Cancún isn’t the disaster it was, it’s spread to the surrounding areas. People were out and about on children’s day, Mother’s Day - there’s just more moving about here. Traffic on the passenger ferry is up - they stuff everyone inside, no sitting up top outdoors.

There’s a lot of wishful thinking, here and abroad, a lot of we are doing better - it’s all ********. I’d be shocked if they start slowly opening up restaurants here by the 15th, dealing with guests is a long ways off.

Any other imaginary dates available besides June 31st?
