Hmmm. If I am south of the gulf stream then it is clockwise. North of the gulf stream it is counterclockwise. But when I think North Atlantic I think north of the gulf stream. But the gulf stream is the big current which keeps Europe from turning into Canada.
Jeez. Think of it on a map, or a satellite image, looking down vertically. You are not on shore looking out horizontally.

Partial because, even after watching this complex picture, giving the "correct" answer is not that easy...

Yes, Superman using his x-ray vision on the bedroom wall will see the kitchen clock running CCW, so will an astronaut looking back at the earth (at the North Atlantic) on his way to the moon....

Edit: the astronaut was looking through his rear view mirror. It always helps to proof read.

How is the astronaut view different from a map or satellite view?

Only If he is looking through the rear view mirror.

Because astronauts are outside of the magnetosphere and the sun's ionizing solar radiation screws with their vision and inverts it. Obviously. I thought everyone knew that. :)

Earths in mirror are closer than they appear
