Just landed in the Canary Islands and I have been told by the local dive centres that Spain has declared a state of emergency and all the dive centres I contacted in Playa Blanca in Lanzarote are stopping operations for now.

Will repost this in the regional forum

Try Gran Can

I am due to go to Tenerife in May on a diving holiday. Tenerife is also a Spanish canary island, however they have already successfully controlled a covid 19 outbreak in Costa Adeje only about a mile from where we intend to stay. Most of the canary islands have high summer temperatures and plenty of sun (UV)light both of which are quite effective in killing covid 19 so hopefully the stringent measures being presently taken on the spanish mainland will not be necessary in the canaries in summer

Can you find *research* for the heat and sunlight claims?

So what are the islands like? I've always been intrigued by the Canary Islands.
Good luck on the dives. I'd love to hear about it.

I was there summer of 16 for a couple weeks after 6 weeks in Spain. Cold water and limited sea life. It was ok. Compared to the Caribbean it was not so good. Depends on where else you have been. Lazna is supposed to be a little better.

I went to Lanzarote in February. The sea wasn't warm, about 18.5C, but it is very clear. You should see angel sharks, barracuda and sea horses. There are also a bunch of small wrecks near the marina of Puerto del Carmen.

Top side, the island is a large volcanic rock. Taxes are lower than mainland Spain so you can get a pint for €1.50-2. Food is also reasonable.
