Well today was the last dive this trip. Today it was the captain, DM and me that's it ! We did a drift and the c 53 wreck, both awesome!
Took pics, videos in my paralenz camera . Can't wait for uploading...

I was surprised this floaty wrap didn't float my paralenz. It still sank.

Tipped well, everyone's happy. Since i ate at local taco places this budget trip worked well.

I had nothing else to do after the dive so I we ate some tacos took a nap and took my rental scooter around the island the other side of the island is so unique and hardly any people at all. for some reason the police car pull me over and asked me if everything was okay and he also wanted me to blow at his face just to test if I had alcohol in my breath LOL since I don't drink that was not an issue.

They let me go once they found i was a tourist....

Now back to America... and get ready for fall !

I'd be willing to bet that they were well aware that you were a tourist before they stopped you. Tourist + scooter + alcohol is a bad, though unfortunately very common, combination.

Is the sargasso still knee deep on the beaches over there?

I was over there last month for a turtle rescue. It's there, and a problem for the baby turtles trying to get to the sea, maybe a foot deep. They moved it out of the way for the nest that they activated for the crowd. We were digging out nests that had already hatched and rescuing stragglers that hadn't made it out with their siblings, then added those babes to the run.

I saw a sign once on the turtle rescue and there were volunteers doing some work....

Usually, they extort money from you if they know you're a tourist. You must have some charm. My buddy was pulled over for "speeding" and was taken for $25. I almost added another $25 because I was going to the airport in the morning and wanted and escort.

I was pulled over in PDC and extorted for $150. He seemed to know that he had me because I had to catch an early morning flight in CUN. Knowing what I know now, I would have had him take me to jail.

It's gotten evil driving over in Playa, at least what I've seen - lines of cars pulled over.

If American tourists stop coming to Mexico, their tourism industry will collapse right?

Can they really pull over cars for no reason AND extort money? I'm thinking there got to be somewhat of reason like DUI's and
Speeding e.t.c right?

What if you don't pay the fees or fines? Court order?

There has always been lure vs warnings about visiting Mexico. There are those who welcome tourists, those who abuse when they can, and the mixes. But then such is true for any tourist destination. For the Yucatan in particular, there were only three people living on Cancun island 50 years ago with little tourism to other parts of the peninsula. The Mexican government set out to attract American tourism and started developments, much has grown, and there will always be thieves among us.

For most traffic stops, if you don't escalate the problem, but refuse to pay, offer to go to court, the bluff fails. In some cases, you end up in jail, or worse the non-tourists jail. Even if you get out, you can't get on a plane until you settle debts & fines.

One must keep their nose clean in paradise! I know some that truly despise this aspect of the culture and others that feel it's normal....

I'm grateful to be allowed to live here and do my best to avoid situations.

Of course. The people who are protective of the tourist industry and the people who decide to pull you over are not the same people.
