Dart is the giant real estate development corporation that is responsible for a number of the large construction projects on Grand Cayman.

The Comfort Suites has long been one of the more economical lodging options on Seven Mile Beach so it will be interesting to see what plans that Dart has for it, if any.

Dart buys Comfort Suites hotel | Cayman Compass

A few years ago Dart bought the Hungry Iguana Restaurant, the Paradise Villas, and some beachfront property on Little Cayman. There were concerns that "there goes the neighborhood!" but so far they have not tried to develop that tiny island.

Earlier this year it was reported that Dart was purchasing Le Soleil de Or, the defunct luxury resort on Cayman Brac and that is probably a good thing because the property was sitting there almost completely empty.

There goes the neighborhood. Wait a minute, That part of Grand is already way overbuilt. Hard to make it worse.
Give the Dart Corporation enough time and they will overdevelop Brac and Little Cayman as well. Hard to imagine that they are buying up all that real estate just for fun. I long for the old days when all of Grand was quiet, tranquil and underdeveloped. Now one has to go way north or east to have some peace and quiet.

Rum point is still quiet but changing.

Not as quiet as it used to be. in the late 70s and 80s, there was a small thatched beach bar there and absolutely nothing else. The local north sound captains would pull up on the sand at lunch time, start a fire to cook their fish and drink cold beer while waiting to eat. We would go out regularly with one of them, Solomon Ebanks, fish, spear fish, snorkel for conch, grab a few lobsters if in season, eat and laze away the afternoon on his boat or under a palm tree on the beach at Rum Point.
The sandbar was where the local captains would clean their catch and feed the trimmings to the rays. It was an open secret.
Now there is a ferry, pier, restaurant and condos at Rum Point. If someone started a fire on the beach, the local FD would have it out in 2 minutes and you would be fined.

Hopefully it will be a long long time before Dart starts to buy up and build up Brac and LC. Dart Realty is a mixed blessing for the Caymans.

Nice. Very fond memories of doing the same.

While I hope it is not another high rise, the property needs a facelift and perhaps a total rebuild. It is tired and shows signs of its many years of having served many many guests. Hopefully it will be done properly not like Margaritaville where they refurbished an old property that was well passed it sell by date and had some exposure to the elements. That doesn’t bode well in the tropics. For long time visitors the island has certainly changed but it still shines as a family destination. Hopefully that part will never change.
