Can someone tell me about how many miles offshore are the average dive sties around Nassau. Also any other info on Nassau would be helpful. TIA

I was just there in November. The sites were well within 2 miles of shore, at least on the south west side of the island where I dove. there are dozens of dive locations around the island. A few days we were so close to the dive location, you needed to be gearing up as the boat pulled away from the dock.

Location wise, the us state department put out a warning about the Nassau town area just east of where the cruise ships dock.

Reefdiver if your still around post a reply, im living here now with a bunch of info if needed.

@Zeke XA3 ...I'll be in Nassau OCT 14/15 we hit port about 0800 and pull out 1600(15th). Looking for some dives...Do you guide? If not can you recommend anyone?
We have our own gear (minus Tanks and Weights). Girlfriend is a novice (OW), I'm Rescue and starting my DM soon.
I've read some pretty hellish reviews on both Stuart's Cove and Bahama Diver's...I'm a bit leery of booking with them.

Hi Bam Bam,

I wish i could take you! Unfortunately i have to prioritize my main job so i cant book out in advance, i can usually only do last minute when i know my main job has nothing. Unless you want to charter an 80 foot yacht for a few thousand a day!!

TBH its no worse than diving in Thailand/Bali/Mexico etc, just dont expect much, make sure you do your own checks and keep an eye on your buddy. Waters clear and calm most of the time, its pretty warm even in winter. Just dont expect much and you wont be disappointed. But as youll find if you DM in the future its also the DM/Ins who makes the dive! You can be in the worse place on earth with a great guide and have a fantastic diver!

If you do have a little spare change then i can definitely find some prices of a center console boat with a private guide? These people will take much better care of you since its just you two, and it sounds like your on a tight schedule so you'll have your own timetable rather than the group of Stuarts or Bahamas Divers.

Thanks, I'm not looking to drop a bunch of money for a private dive in Nassau  And gathering up enough folks to join us would be more pain than I'm willing to endure...we'll roll the dice w/ BD

Logistically the better choice although since you're on a cruise ship you have to get there on your own - there's cabs in the parking lot once you exit customs.
Some are shared ride to various locations so ask -you want one to take you directly to BD. Most are vans also. Under a 10min. ride IIRC.

Look at a Nassau map - see the bridge to Paradise Island? BD is on the shore side nearby.

Cove's is 45 Mins south of the cruise port but will pick you up just outside customs. Some of their movie set dives are badly deteriorated - the Vulcan bomber for example lost all it's skin (and identifiable features) about a decade ago - all that's left is a cage not identifiable as a plane. Of course the ship in the 007 movie (For Your Eyes Only) is still pretty intact as it was a real freighter.

If I had limited time in port I'd go with BD so I didn't have to spend 90 mins. of it on Cove's bus.

Just down the street from the port (easy walk) is some shops and a farmers market. Also the ferry to the Atlantis mega-resort/casino docks just to the left (standing on your ship) of the cruise dock. Atlantis has Mantas in a big tank, a dolphin encounter and stand up paddleboarding besides the casino and lots of food options. So some things to do after diving,

We actually got talked into one of those van tours and it was reasonably good once the driver filled the van with pax off the ship. We toured one of the forts, the semi-hidden waterfall in town (which you could walk to from the port) a secluded west side beach and were dropped at the market. Our driver pointed out the attractions and seemed in no hurry at every stop. $20pp 20 years ago.

Thanks we booked a reef/wreck trip w/ BD and will likely catch a taxis to BD...we'll see how it goes  Hopefully the Dorian siblings stay away...I don't think the Islands need another 'Cane.
I've been to Nassau about 4x before...this is the first dive there though!

Got back from Nassau a week ago. We dove with Stuart's Cove. First dive to Heineken Wall was nice, with great biz. Second dive, we were diving with about 50 sharks. Also sea turtles and a crazy number of fish. This was at the Bahama Mamma site.

I had a great Dive with Bahama's Diving. Good boat, good crew, good DMs. We hit a wreck and a reef. Saw plenty of life. Only complaint was no post dive cookies or oranges unless you bought them.
