Anyone know what this is? Taken at La Jolla Shores back in March, about 60ft down. There was another one nearby that was a bit smaller. Never seen anything quite like it before in the area.

Phil beat me to it. The only time I saw Maripelta off Catalina was on a pretty deep dive.
 
Thanks for the quick reply. It's an algae?? And here I basically ignored it for a nearby guitarfish. This thing is way more interesting...

Of course you should ignore the guitarfish for an alga! (Alga is singular, algae are plural.) Who wouldn't? Not that I don't feel sympathy for the photosynthetically and phenolically challenged, of course.
