Latest update - Not sure what "diving line" got tangled.

SWANZEY, N.H. —

Authorities have released new details in the death of a 20-year veteran of the Swanzey Fire Department.

According to the Essex County District Attorney's Office in Massachusetts, Lt. Benjamin Tatro was with a group of other divers at a shipwreck off the coast of Gloucester when his diving line got tangled.

Officials said Tatro was having difficulty breathing. Another diver helped him to the surface, where Tatro was alert and talking.

Officials in Essex County said Tatro died from cardiac arrest, but family members told WMUR that they are still waiting on medical results for more information and a final determination of the cause of his death.

If he was diving a wreck, then he may well have been laying line for navigation. It is surprisingly easy to become entangled in your own line. It is important to practice this skill if you are going to use it in a real environment,

The Poling doesn't usually have any need for a line, unless going way off into the sand to look for scallops/pipes which is very possible this is what he was doing. The inside is small and easy to navigate with many exits.
