Getting "attacked" by a bird at 40ft is one of the stranger things that has happened to me while diving. Quite common in Monterey, CA actually. I suspect people are feeding them as the Cormorant's seem to think my blue dry-gloved fingers are a blue sea star and nibble lightly on them.
