Does anyone have any experience diving out of Makaha beach? I'm looking for a different shore dive spot and it looks good (from the beach, anyway). I've been out to the caverns before, but was wondering how it is closer in toward the beach. Thanks!

Closer in to shore it is very shallow, but you can swim out to the caverns. Mostly, you wanna watch your stuff as break ins are common in that area.

Makaha can be a great shore dive....... Here's a few do's and dont's.

DO: Talk to the lifeguard on duty
DO: Check the surf report before you head out (anything more than 1-2 might get sketchy).
DO: Be mindful of your vehicle as was previously mentioned (same as any beach park).

DON'T: Try to dive without a dive float...... it's a state law.
DON'T: Surface around the dive spot near the caverns without being mindful of approaching boats
DON'T: Forget to post pictures and let us all know how it was!

Happy Diving!!!!
