I told him up front that I didn't know anything about CCRs in case he had a problem. His response was if he didn't respond normally to a signal just take him to the surface. I felt uncomfortable in that I wasn't even sure that I would be able to do that.

If that diver had a problem with his gas - such as high or low PO2 a diluent flush would get rid of that problem for a little while anyway. If the diver had a CO2 hit a dil flush would get rid of that too, for a minute or two.

A dil flush is very easy to perform, but the support diver needs to be shown how.

Last week we were doing a tec dive out of Pompano, and the DMs on the operation served as support divers. When we were doing our deco stops, they dove along our side with an O2 cilinder ready to assist us in case we needed help.
Not that anyone in the group needed it (in this case), but it trully gave me peace of mind that the shop thought about adding this value to the service.
