I can use an spg and build off a spare 1st stage i have, or if you have a checker let me know. Just want to check the tanks we have filled. Thanks.

no worries. They can be built from old fill whips if you have them laying around as well, sometimes older fill stations will have a box with old whips and since they are 1/4"NPT and usually have a bleed on them you can DIY it
 
I've got a pony setup with a button spg and a regularator on it for bleeding. We will survive with that for a while I guess.
 
yeah you don't usually find them any cheaper than DGX even used, new they are usually quite expensive, you almost never see them used. The convenience is worth the cost for me, especially since you'll be getting a much more accurate gauge and wasting less air. You could also try to buy a used transfill whip which does the same thing if it has a shutoff on it, also good to keep around.
