Just be careful, any lube will act like a sand magnet.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes plumbing section and get silicone grease, you can get enoughtto last a lifetime for less than $5 Use a light amount, only enough to make the o ring shiny, not sticky. first clean all debris from the o ring with a coffee filter or microfiber cloth. make sure that no hair, sand or salt is sticking before assembling.

Sometimes I use JB Weld for 100% leak proofing.

Don't believe everything you read on the web, this funny guy would also

tell you to charge your cell phone in a microwave oven.

Seriously, a thin coat of silicone grease would do well, don't use petroleum

based grease because it could damage the o-ring itself.

....tell you to charge your cell phone in a microwave oven.

No, that's how you dry them out if they get dropped in the toilet.

iPhone6 requires two cycles of the "popcorn" mode.

Check with the manufacture on which grease they advise, depending on the type of o-ring they use certain greases can cause damage to the o-ring. Silicone grease you use for camera o-rings, and most dive components should be fine but it would be best to find out what the manufacturer suggests.
