Passing gas affecting buoyancy?

Most specialized freediving agencies claim that farting through a snorkel might be fatal. Positioning a snorkel in a manner that would facilitate that act is part of the ritual required of all new members.

Back when I was certified we had to tow another diver while assisting him with mouth-to-snorkel breathing. The guy I had to do it with was 240 lbs West Point football player that chewed tobacco. Still cringe at the memory...

I had the same experience in the Rescue course! Also, my guy had a booger on his face. Oh, and he is my husband... triple loss....
