Hello all, I am considering a holiday on the island of Crete (Greece). I tried to find info on the best diving spots on the internet but did not find much "objective" info. In fact, I mainly found the web-sites of the various scuba diving clubs, which obviously do not compare sites in the different parts of the island and mainly focus on the sites which are close to their location.
Is there anyone who has some experience of diving in Crete and could suggest me the must-dive sites?
Many thanks in advance!

I am also going to crete in September and read on many forums, that the South is better. Why? More sealife? Could someone recommend a handful of nice sites in the south?

preferences:
#1: marine life,
#2: interesting underwater landscape,
#3 (not so important): antiquities.

I think South is better because of
- a little less fishing (bigger cities are on the North coast) but don't expect to see frequently large schools or large fish (overfishing anyway)
- seascape is more "dramatic" : you can reach +100m depth from the shore south of rethymno for example.
From what I've seen, not easy to find depth from Northern shores.

Note that Lybian Sea (south) is usually a few degrees colder than Agean Sea (North)

But I believe Crete underwater surroundings are yet to be fully explored to have a good idea of what is available.
I'll continue this again (from shores) in a few weeks ... yeeepeee ! :D
