Family is planning a trip to San Diego. My son and I are wanting to get a dive or two in while out there. Any recommendations for a shop to coordinate the dives with? What is the average water temp the last week of March? Son will probably dive with a 7mm wetsuit. I will probably bring my drysuit. Any recommendation for sites?

Consider Marissa Dive Charters, my favorite. Bottom temps don't vary that much, would expect low 50s. I dive wet and do fine with full 7 mm, hooded vest, appropriate booties and gloves. I would dive dry if I lived there. Wreck alley with Yukon and Ruby E are great as are kelp forests and the Coronado Islands. Enjoy, my regards to Lora.

Good diving, Craig

I agree with everything except "the coronados" Marissa, kelp, wrecks, All great dives. 7mil. is what I use. Bring a camera plenty to see above & below the water." Waterhorse" is another dive charter.
Also if you don't mind driving an hour north to the long beach area and grab a dive boat to Catalina. Dozens of dive lcations.

Beach Diving: contact Power Scuba in San Diego. They have Saturday morning meet ups at La Jolla Shores.

Waterhorse is who we used diving out of San Diego.

San Diego SCUBA Diving, Charter Boat Dives. Dive Trips

La Jolla is a great shore dive but doing it with a local guide is a good idea.

Scuba Diving in San Diego - La Jolla Shores

My first thought was Catalina. Its a great place to spend a couple days but pricy. Once there you can shore dive all you like at Casino Point.

Casino Point

Shore dives have very questionable vis. For that matter we had LT 10' on the boat at NOSC Tower.
Dive temps - does it matter? :cold: 45F-55F is highly likely, but maybe warmer.

Nothing like advance planning! Have fun

PB Sports in Pacific beach is a new shop in San Diego that specializes in guided Scuba tours. If you are new to the area, it is highly recommended you hire a guide. PB Sports is located at 2950 Garnet Ave right off the 5 freeway going into PB. PB Sports also now has an air compressor ready to pump tanks for all...

Happy Diving!

We also charter more dive boats than any other group in the region. Not to mention our eco and social activites.

Power Scuba - Yep

Cheers,

Bill

There are many shops and instructors in San Diego that offer guided tours for certified scuba divers. A fairly comprehensive list can be found here: San Diego Shops & Instructors

Bill does an incredible job of getting his Power SCUBA divers into the water with many fun events.

I just returned from a weekend in San Diego. I was there for a wreck penetration class where we did 2 day dives on the Yukon, 1 night dive on the Yukon and the following day 2 day dives on the Ruby E. All on Waterhorse Charters' Humboldt and had a fantastic time. Later I found out that they also provide trips south across the border to Coronado Islands, Mexico. Looking forward to heading back even for a slight change from the Monterey waters.

I go to SD for a medical conference in October with a few extra days to play.
looking at trying to arrange a wreck trip. Also, are Coronado Islands worth diving?

Hi ruNEOrun, this wreck penetration course sounds amazing, where did you take it?

I'll be in San Diego in November and I'm thinking about taking a wreck course, but I'll only be there for two or three days. How long does it take to complete the whole course? Is there a classroom portion?

thanks
