Hi everyone, I was just wondering how long people's tanks last on average. I just want to see how I compare. I am aware that many things go into this, so dont tell me that. Lets keep it simple..Al80 air, 40ft depth just sight seeing with low current.:cool2:

On an aluminum 80, with an average consumption rate, at 40 ft. the gas consumption rate would be 1.5 cu. ft. per minute.

On your gauge, you would see a rate of about 65 PSI/Min.

I have never stayed at 40' to see, but based on what I normally consume on a 80, 60, 40 profile ( 1+ hrs), about 1 1/2 -2 hrs

I bought a Steel 72 with born date sometime around my birthday (mid 60's), and it's still holding air today. So...40'ish years.

:) Sorry.

checked the log book for a couple of dives, note HP 100 tanks so you can do the ratio

1--cold water + drysuit = 58 minutes, max depth 40ft and ascending steadily most of the dive, albeit slowly and at less than 20ft for quite a while
2--night dive, cold water + drysuit = 48 minutes, max depth 40 ft, ascending again, average depth overall prob 30 ft, actually ended dive due to chilled as opposed to lack of air

as the other comment said, I've never really stayed at 40ft to find out, but age has caught up to me wrs air consumption

I actually started this thread because the only time reference is to the tank life on the others. lol

I don't often dive AL80's except on vacation ... but I'm pretty sure I could easily get an hour on a 40-foot dive ... probably more ...

A few weeks ago I did a dive that is close... tank was single HP100. Found one iPhone 4s and 12pr sunglasses or maybe 13, I forget..anyway:
max depth 41
avg depth 36
dive time 79min
psi start 3480
psi end 1677

I dive this depth a lot BC I do a lot of lake diving. I'm a bigger guy and not necessarily an air hog but certainly not a good as my little dive buddy!

Anyway, I get right at 60-65 min on an al80.
