It definitely appeared soft/fleshy. Maybe it was a mutant baby green moray, kicked out of its rock!
 
After a little research it appears to be a Ribbon worm. That would be my first guess.
 
So maybe a baby green moray or a ribbon worm. Anything baby in the water is a good find for me. Thanks!
 
I vote for the worm. Baby greenies are slimmer than that from my experience, and I believe you'd have seen eyes or other features that are absent in the photo...
 
sure looks like a green morey to me. definately an eel.
 
I'm recasting my vote for the worm. Never seen one of those before as they're normally buried. Scary. I'd hate to have one of those crawl up my wetsuit.
