Thanks everyone for the updates! This will be our first trip to AKR as well as with the group we're traveling with, A1 Scuba from Denver. Met all the participants a week ago and it really looks like we're going to have a great time. It's great to see so many satisfied customers from the resort. I was a little nervous due to the lack of reports but in the group we're with, some are going back for their 5th time so we figured it couldn't be *that* bad.

I'll try to post a report when we get back. Thanks again for all the info!

That will be a fun group. A1 is well respected at AKR and you will be treated well. Shane is the A1 escort for that trip. He is fun and very safety oriented. You will love it there.

.... Scubaboard but you will find them on other travel sites such as Tripadvisor. Perhaps some resort owners might find ways to encourage such postings.

They already have done so, arguably skewing the perspective by "encouraging" behaviors. In some cases- pretty obvious. SCUBA divers seem to post here on SCUBA Board.

I'll be updating daily as i am there from the 4th-11th. To the OP....mind if I use this thread?

I would suggest that you start a new one, using title such as: "Anthony Key Resort AKR 2012 Trip Report"

That will make it easier for the search engine to find. It would be nice to have a trip report from a SCUBA diver!

Put bug repellent before you feel them. When we first got on the boat, there was a group of people that is there for their 2nd week and their back was full of bites. We thought...we won't be like that since we will surely put repellent if we feel the need for it. First couple of days, we thought, those people must be sleeping in the hammocks or something since we haven't felt anything so weren't so strict on our application of repellent. But toward later that day, we feel the itch, but by then, it was too late since those itch are from all the bites that we got earlier on. We ended up looking like those people at the end of our stay.

DEET early and DEET often.

A repeated recommendation in reference to Roatan. The Sand Fleas

are ferocious, likely the worst on the planet.

The only real cure once bitten, and it is instantaneous relief:

Get a scrip from your Doctor before you go. (This is the active ingredient in Nasonex, which you could dab-on with a q-tip. This cream is about 1/100th the cost)

Very good then, I shall do that!

I didn't really mind but for reasons stated, that's a pretty good idea. Looking forward to your updates!
