FWIW, the small reef you've labeled The Whisker was called "DeepSouth" in the late 1970's. We dove this once in a while from an inflatable. The name was coined by Reid Borgwardt IIRC....
OK, in the sim we will call it "DeepSouth (aka The Whisker)"

.....You might consider moving your attention just a wee bit south to Point Lobos...there is lots of diving done there, more so than Monastary.

We plan to design several virtual dive sites for Monterey; from Breakwater to south Point Lobos :D .... I need to start somewhere and Doug has been asking for Monastery since a while

OK, I have the whole wireframe of the terrain in place; now is time to paint it:wink: starting from the surface.

Does anyone have nice surface images of the coastline? Taken from the drop point? (my drop point in the sim is ~50m south of the wash rock)

Thanks

I'd be willing to go out with some people and shoot a bag up or something to get a good fix on the location.
The beta version of the virtual dive site of Monastery Wall is - FINALLY - up and running in eDiving.
The deepest point in the sim is 1197ft .... and no one can get there - without cheating

I still need to add "warning images" .... but I do not know where to place them as the scene starts with the diver already in the water :shocked2:

Regarding the memorial, according to the other thread it sits at 83ft .... but does anyone have an approximate location?

Thanks

You know, I promised you some ranges like a year ago but totally flaked. I'll see what I can do.

You are missing the best part. Monastery isn't Monastery without the trek though the shifting pebble, the timing of the waves to get in, and the climbing of the berm afterwards.

Three marginally relevant comments:

I had to escort a paniced buddy back to dry land once at Monastery. He freaked after making it past the surf. Just needed someone to get a firm grip on him & talk him back through the surf.

My last Monastery dive tried to kill me...but not right away. The coarse sand got into my BC & kept getting into the exhaust valves no matter how well I rinsed it. Eventually, many dives later, some got into the auto-inflator leading to an unplanned assent. By the time I realized what the noise was & started dumping air I didn't have enough hands to vent the BC and drysuit so I flared, maintained my airway & enjoyed the ride to the surface.

Finally, years ago I built a couple of rigs to take 3D stereo photo's with my Nikonos V & was expecting something very different when I read the title of this thread.

Cheers
