Recently picked up an EEZYCUT "Trilobite" cutting tool to replace my umpteenth z-knife. This thing rocks - it's what a z-knife type cutter should be: easy to use, sharp as hell, built solid. I'd post my own pictures, but my daughter seems to have lost my camera somewhere in the house, so I cribbed these here and there from the web:

It's made out of some kind of pretty solid plastic. Could be Delrin (?) as it has that same "milled" feel. Because of the design and since the blade is much longer than what you'd find in a z-knife (about 1.5" of exposed blade) it actually "slices" what it's cutting as opposed to simply "chopping" with a only small portion of exposed blade:

My LDS was selling it packaged with two additional free replacement blades

Comes in two mount options. Harness mount, which is what I went for...

Or wrist mount...(my computers are on bungee mounts, so not an option for me.)

My wife thinks I'm nuts as I'm running around the house seeing what it can cut...and I haven't found anything yet that it can't. I sort of look like the guy in this video cutting anything that's not nailed down...

:eyebrow:

It slices ... it dices ... it make Julienne fries!!!!!!! But wait, there's more!!!!! :D

OK ... just kidding; I had to do that. It actually does look like a pretty nifty little tool. I've seen them online before, now a genuine user review. Thanx!

How is it for corrosion resistance?

Of course I always clean all my gear right away :p

In the second pic it seems to show milling/router marks on the upper plastic stick out over the blade thingy. (Sorry to get technical on you. Blade guard? Line guide?) So I'll second the Delrin. Neat compact useful looking tool. Like the Trilobyte name, and the strap/velcro tab is a great idea.

What is the max diameter line it can cut?

Looks like a good tool for fishing line... but maybe not for steel trace or heavier gauge netting?

Hi DevonDiver

The tool is designed to cut line up to 8mm thick although it will cut through something considerably thicker. We tested it on bungee that's used for sidemount and the EEZYCUT Trilobite cut right through it.

We have also used it on webbing without any issues.

There has been some concern of being able to access/handle the tool with thick cold water gloves on. It not a problem at all, the EEZYCUT Trilobite can be accessed really easy with the gloves on.

We are going to shoot a video over the winter that will show the tool being used in cold water cutting a diver out of a 2" webbing harness!

Cheers

Interesting take on a line cutter .. I can see the different approach would make it more effective

Thank you

Cool name and nice design. Can't wait till I get one.

Checked their web site. Blade is Stainless, and they suggest coating with silicone lubricant to slow corrosion.
A pretty impressive little tool. Looks like it makes my short list.
Someone sure spent some time, making up that sample frame they used in the video! :shakehead:

I don't have much use for it, but after watching the video I'm going to buy one, set up a lattice of different cords, turn on some new age music, and cut stuff. :D
