Geez, children! Started 4 years ago at 63. Turn 67 next month and I'm gonna keep doing it until I can't get my fat butt in a wet suit anymore.

Wait a minute!

Given that today is your birthday - and I'm assuming you haven't done any dives today - you technically stopped diving when you were 49.

Hopefully your recent advancement to being a quintogenarian will not dissuade you from picking diving up again.

Thanks for reminding me. I'm even longing for my first dive at... Dutch

PS - why did you post "50 and Diving" in the "Non-Diving Related Stuff" forum? (Dimished congnitive function secondary to advanced age?)

SB sent me the link when they wished me HB. Blame them.
By the way - I also received my AARP card in the mail yesterday.

Thanks to all for making me feel younger today. I wasn't complaining - more like amazed that I've stayed with diving and enjoyed it so much for so long. It's nice to know I have more years to enjoy.

Let me see how to put this. I have probably been diving since almost BEFORE you were born. I started in spring 1959 and I do not intend to stop anytime soon. I was on a dive trip a couple of years ago to Roatan and there were only four of us at the resort with me being the youngest by far. This should serve as a good sign for the rest of us. One of the others was in his 70's and the other couple was in their 80's. None of us missed a single dive that week; a minimum of 3/day.

I am 61, my wife is 75. She received her certification a year ago in Maui. We have dived in Maui, Catalina, Morro Bay and Akumal, MX.

We are heading to Kona, Hi for two weeks of diving this month.

She says "You don't quit because you get old, you get old because you quit, ."

I love that statement, how true. I can relate to my father who seems to have quit and is ready for a nursing home vs seeing the group of "seasoned" divers here. Very inspiring and a testament to the sport keeping us in shape or getting some of us in shape and off the couch!

Happy Easter everyone :D:blessing:

Next year I'll be 63 and will reach my 50th year of diving (did my first one at 13). I intend to continue at least into my mid- ro late-70s (and beyond if my good health continues). Met Zale Parry last summer... for the youngsters, she was the one who helped teach Lloyd Bridges to dive for the TV show "Sea Hunt." She set the woman's deep diving record at 209 ft in 1954, and was on the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue in 1955.

Her age is a closely guarded secret, but she looked great after doing a few dives here in the Casino Point dive park.

Grrrr ... woof! I'll bet she was a saucy minx in her day ... and probably still a lovely woman.

As for the 50 thing .... My wife gave me a birthday cake with a scuba diver on it for my 50th birthday because I'd just been certified. Yes, I wish I had done it sooner, but I sure am glad I am diving now!

I am really younger than you are, but I am seriously drive up to 40 hardly 50 because I am not experienced as you. But better you keep around 60 it will be much safer.
