Hi I'm new to diving I've only been on 2 dives. I'm looking at investing in my own dive gear but there's so many options! I've been looking around on divers-supply.com and they have some great deals but I just don't know what's good and what's not. Oceanic oceanpro and sea elite seem to be common brands are they good for a recreational diver? Should I go for jacket bcd or back inflating? Thanks!

Scubaaakid,

Thanks for posting but are you aware you posted this in the public safety diver forum? You did not mention if you were part of a PSD team or if you were interested in becoming a PSD. In any case since you are so new to diving your best bet is to look to your team for gear selection. Most established teams have a good idea what they expect their divers to have for this type of work. Standardization is a good thing and the team can give you ideas on where best to invest in personal gear.

If you are not interested in PSD then find experienced recreational divers who are doing the type of diving you want to do and ask them for advise and help. Your local dive shop and instructor can also be of assistance as well but remember the dive shop is in the business of selling gear. That is why finding experienced divers who are doing the type of diving you want to get into is a good source of information.

Do you own research as well and do not make any impulse purchase based on good deals. You are right there are a lot of choices out there. Good Luck.
