Hi all,

I'm a OW-certified newbie with no diving buddies. Outside of my certification dives at Casino Pt, I've only went diving twice (once in Mendocino county and once in Carmel-by-the-Sea), so I'm very new to this. I just got a bunch of used gear from my dad, which is really cool but I'll have to make sure my weight is all dialed in.

Do you guys know where I could start; i.e. anybody who wouldn't mind me tagging along to see the local dive spots? I live in Culver City btw, and I'm afraid boat diving might be a bit pricey for me. In fact, if anybody is going diving this Saturday or Sunday afternoon, and could be patient enough to have me tag along, I would love to go!

Thanks! :D

There are lots of local divers around here who are happy to take out new divers! I'm sure you will have no issues meeting people and getting a group of buddies to dive with.

I would offer to take you out this weekend, but unfortunately, I'm having oral surgery on Friday, so I will be out for a little bit....hopefully no more than a week though.

BTW, have you had your dad's gear inspected to make sure it's all working properly? If not, I'd strongly suggest that you do because you don't want to find out at 20+ feet that your regulator doesn't deliver air adequately and your BC has a leak....

Good luck finding a group to dive with this weekend. Shoot me a PM and we'll try to get a dive in after I'm healed! :D

Thanks... heal up quick and get back in the water! Hope to see you in there soon. The two dives I did after certifying were with my dad's gear. On the first dive, the primary second stage had a slow leak due to sand, and he replaced it. We swapped weight belts though and I'm putting some of the weight in the BCD (it's weigh integrated) so I'll have to re-check my weighting.

Oh and I just looked at your profile. I'm planning on riding Streets of Willow at the end of October... not sure which track orgs you ride with and how often, but if you're going to be there, let me know!

Sure.. Just let me know when..

all right! anyone in to go dive on any of these times (sat 9/26 or sun 9/27)? i already have obligations for saturday afternoon unfortunately, but i would love to go during any of these times, in order of preference:

1. sunday afternoon
2. sunday morning
3. saturday morning, the earlier the better

if anyone is okay with those times, let me know! PV area, malibu area, catalina... anywhere is good. :D

I should be doing a night dive this Tuesday (9/22) at vet park. Sat and Sun i'll have to let you know latter on in the week to see how my schedule is.

have you did any diving at Laguna beach, are you up for a lobster dive or prefer a day dive?

haven't tried an OC sites yet! i just went with Skunky to PV and it was nice, but supposedly the visibility could have been even better. i prefer a day dive, but this weekend i'm going to SD with my dad to lobster dive; i'll go in depending on how comfortable i feel.

one of these days i would like to try OC though!
